Chris,
I will check these out this weekend.
Thanks for the legwork. We need to first find a new location before we book an April date.

Over the weekend I checked out Arts and Crafts Beer Parlor on West 8th Street. A little too close to NYU for my tastes. Makes me feel like Rodney Dangerfield in "Back To School" which I personally experienced twice when I got my first Master's and my MFA where I was the old guy in all my classes.
I also checked out Slainte Bar and Lounge. Not ideal but perhaps doable.
Off the beaten path I will check out Penrose at 1590 Second Avenue between 82d and 83rd. Walking distance for me and likely not Hipster Haven as much as downtown. It is reported to be a place for bigger groups.

I checked out Penrose on 2d Avenue between 82d and 83rd. The space was well suited and they had a large rectangular table that would of been great for us. I inquired with the bartender about the vibe and situation on a Sunday afternoon, and he said that it was a madhouse because of brunch and they cover around 300 people on a Sunday. When I inquired about Saturdays he said that they are even worse.
I began talking in earnest mentioning Puck Fair and how it was going to be demo'ed for luxury condos for the rich, and how we were looking for a low key bar with a similar vibe. So I got refered to "Joe's" on 81st and Amsterdam. Anyone familiar with "Joe's?" I'll take a walk with Beagle-Face over the next week to check it out. Still within walking distance from East Harlem.

Perhaps:
Paulaner, 265 Bowery, New York, NY 10002
This place has some large tables and it's a big space. Never saw it too crazy on a weekend. Perhaps it's worth a look.

I still have to check out Molly's at 287 3rd Avenue. Paulaner is not so far away.
Thanks.

The big booths look promising and the food looks good. What do you think.

I think the main focus is that we need a bar that is NOT busy on Sundays. This will be hard to do on the UES and UWS. A busy bar / restaurant will be stressing to get us out quickly. On the LES this will not happen at all. The Bowery places might be the right route. Even more so if we move towards Orchard and Ludlow. We need more a bar than a restaurant (brunch places are out of the question for sure) ...and it can't be a hot spot... and needs to have a lack of TVs...and needs to open early.

John,
Thanks for the expert advice. I'm really clueless about bars.

Could work... http://www.slaintenyc.com/gallery.php Opens daily at 11am. However, appears to be a huge soccer bar.

John,
Sports on TV was a complaint in one review. Yuk.
No problem with the cash bar.

Could be a problem for others in 2016. Not for me though.
