I have been looking at the Voigtlander Nikon RF lenses on CameraQuest and can't decide if I want the 21 f/4 or the 25 f/4 before they're all gone.. My partner has the 21mm lens and I don't know if I want to just get the same or if I want a slightly less wide super wide.. haha
If you had to choose one, which would it be? Noticeable differences between the two? (besides obvious focal lenght)

If you have access to a 21f4 - I would go for the 25mm or, if you can find one, the 28f3.5. The 21 - 28 is a nice step. The 25 is pretty close to the 21. The 28f3.5 is the same formula as the LTM version - a lens that has become a legend, deservedly so. Advantage with the 28 is that you can use it on a SP without the finder.

I was really tempted to include the 28 3.5 in this.. but I don't have an SP yet, and it may be a while before I get one.. (I have an S2 and S3) I would really like that 28 eventally (I would really like all of them, really.. but unfortunately there's this thing called money that's stopping me.. haha) but I was going to go for the 21 or 25 until then.. Thanks for your help Tom!

I have the 25mm SC. I use it on my Contax IIa. Lovely lens. It's RF coupled where the LTM version is not.
I have the 21mm f/4 CV in LTM. Superb lens.
Since you have access to the 21, get the 25mm. You will not regret it.

Thanks! I think I will! I can (hopefully) get the 21 later, then.. ;-) crossing my fingers they're still available by then...

I have always seen the 24/25 wides as "badly cut-out jackets".
A 28 and a 21 is all you need.
The 28 is the wide to use when you want to frame enough things but without giving your pictures that "superwide look".
The 21 is the wide to use when you want to dramatically compose, with very deep perspectives and bumping-out foregrounds.
The 25 is neither one, nor the other.

Can the 28mm be used on an S2?

It can.. but I would have to get the viewfinder seperately..

Tough question considering you "have" a 21mm at your disposal. Easy though if you really gel with 25mm fov - go with that. If you think 21mm is more your style and your partner isn't thinking of selling, maybe save the $ for the 28 and SP?

Exactly.. I've been going back and forth between which one I think I want.. I just started saving for the SP, so I'll probably get the 28 around the same time.. with everyone's comments, I'm still undecided! haha
I guess I'll just have to save up and get them all!

It has the exact same optics as the LTM or M-mount version, so you could check out the images in the flickr M-mount group:

If you go to our Flickr site and "tag" Voigtlander Color Skopar 25mm f4.0 - there are about 75 shots done with the SC 25f4 - various films (Arista 400/TriX/+X Movie stock etc). I find that I really like the 25f4 in SC mount - the longer throw of the Nikon focus makes it easy to pinpoint focus. Great lens in any mount!
