I don't collect coins as a hobby but I do keep anything unusual that shows up in my change. This has worked out well for me; I spend very littletime or effort and every once in a while I sell the accumulation for a modest reward.Just imagine that you could go back in time and saved all those silver dimes and quarters that were pre-1965.

I sort of accidentally got my dad a slide rule collection; he was a mechanical engineer before he retired and I remembered him always having one around(actually I'm old enough to have learned how to use them in school). So a few years back, I found a nice on at a garage sale and gave it to him for his birthday. And have done that several times since. Forgetting that I'd given him the others. :bang:
He gave me a bit of crap about that the last time I did it until I suggested he sell them and they turned out to be worth a few bucks. Pretty sure he turned those into a really nice bottle of single malt.
