Hi all,

After ~80 years my II spool's grip is all but gone.

I have been taping the leader in place, but would prefer to get back some of the original grip.

As the spring can not be "resprung" due to its orientation and the risk of popping the spots -has anyone any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Get a new spool. You might also try using a bit of paper under the film leader as a shim to help it stay in. If you get a new spool consider one from a Canon screwmount. They have a spring loaded knob that is easier to use. You might also try gently squeezing the metal tab down to see if you can get more tension. Good Luck. Joe

Well... my new spool arrived.

What a GREAT tip, Livesteamer! Thank you!

It does indeed have the pop-up knob which is immensely convenient. The grip spring is nice and tight. Such a win-win that any LTM user should swap over to this spool -trouble or not. It is simply that much better!

I never would have thought of stepping out of the Leica box for this (yes, I am keeping the original matching spool) ... so thanks again for opening my eyes!
