Well-known
I'm puzzled by this but I'm also not an expert on this vintage camera. I just bought a IIF camera that had been extremely lightly used. It was a one-owner and had with it the US Customs certificate with the camera's serial number.
The camera is cosmetically a 9+ except for the engraving. It hasn't been used in about 40 years, though. There was a roll of Kodachrome II in the camera when I got it.
My question is about why the straight line has been engraved and then filled in on the back of this camera. It's far too small to have been an engraved name and too big to be a social security number. There is usually nothing in this area of the camera's back that you would bother covering up.
It doesn't look horrible and it's not really a valuable camera but I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks!
