I picked up a IIIf for next to nothing since it wasn't functioning. I know it needs a curtain replacement but decided to check out the internals to see its condition. Additionally, I'm going to have the chrome/nickel stripped off the top/bottom plate and use bake on gun paint inspired from a thread here on rff.

I'm using a test by Kuramochi Nobuyuki as a guide with is quite thorough with descriptions and lots of illustrations. I'm nearly done but for some reason, the film wind knob is quite stuck. I've removed the inner set screw and have looked around for another which there doesn't seem to be but it won't budge with fingers and reluctant to start prying. Anyone have experience with this issue?

image of the slipped curtain guide / ribbon that fell into that will need to be replaced as well as the curtain material.

Never mind. I reinstalled the set screw but loose and that served to capture the calor to unscrew.

Thanks Erik. I need to check it out.

got everything torn down and the top plate off. The sink dial is a bit of a stumper, looks like it should have a retaining ring but dont see one. time to check out that pdf i guess.

That requires a lathe and a special setting tool.

It looks like it might be nice to have a bit of experience with the operation before trying it.

Thanks for the info. I just contact Don at DAG and he can pop it off and back on after the paint for a reasonable price.

Been using my IIIf RD-ST and as I said, this was essentially given to me because it isn't functioning and I like tinkering so this was a perfect specimen.
