With the problems of Kodak getting worse each day, I have decided to test out some Ilford developers as they seem to be committed to B&W. I have been using HC110 for many years (with some Rodinal) because of its great keeping properties and its good compromise between speed, sharpness and grain.
Having looked at the Ilford developers at their web site, I am confused about their Kodak equivalents:
ID11 = D76
Ilfotec DD-X = ?
Ilfotec HC = ?
Ilfotec LC29 = ?
Ilfosol S = ?

Help!

I would not worry much about Kodak chemistry disapearing even if Kodak does not survive.
Champion has been licensed to make all Kodak branded chemistry for years so it would be unlikely they disapear as long as they can make money on the products.

Hi, Ken. Ilfotec HC is Ilfords HC-110. LC29 is the same in dilute form, and Ilfosol is a very good and versatile developer capable of great results but doesn't keep as well, so only useful if you get through it within 3 months or so. I would not worry about Kodak chems disappearing though as has been said, Champion makes them now, as well as Ilford chems, if I recall correctly. Just stock pile a couple of HC-110 if it makes you feel more secure, as it lasts an eternity. Mine is at least 10 years old and still working properly.

Thanks all. I'll probably try the Ilfotec HC as a HC110 equivalent. I hope the Kodak chemistry is around for many years, but corporations are very funny about their profit margin, so you never know what they are going to do.

Here in Germany Ilford's alternative to HC-110 has been selling for effectively twice the price, compared to HC-110. So.... much as I love HP5+ and use Ilford Rapid Fix, I am also looking forward to Champion continuing to produce "Kodak" HC-110 🙂

Greetings, Ljós

And that is why I returned to Kodak. I love the Ilford products but they are always pricier ! HC-110 is about 20% cheaper than the Ilford and Tri-X is 33% cheaper than HP5+.

T-Max developer is the same as DD-X, I think!

No, it is not. They are very different.
DD-X gives much finer grain. And works excellent with Delta 3200, delivering a very good characteristic curve (control of highlight density) with this film at 1600 and 3200 speed.

But T-Max developer and Tetenal Ultrafin Plus (not Ultrafin liquid) are very similar, almost identical formula.

To the OP:
Kodak photo chemicals are produced for years by Champion, not by Kodak.
Don't worry.

And the latest deal with KPP is probably quite positive for the future of Kodak photo film.

Cheers, Jan
