Ilford films---Red Window difficulties.

I have tried to use Ilford b/w film in my Ikonta 521,but find that the lettering/frame numbering used by Ilford on the backing paper is so faint that it can barely be seen and read through the red window.So poor in fact that several frames have been lost on more than one film.

Much as I would like to continue to use this film,I am going to change.Fuji colour film has no such problem,so presumably their Neopan should be fine.How do Kodak films fare in this respect.It would help me to know before buying any.

Hallo Brian, I have the same problem with my Moskva5, 120 Tri-X is fine (havn't used any other Kodak 120 film).

"Lucky" film is another one to stay away from when it comes to reading the numbers through the window - it's even worse than the Ilford film.

I have use Kodak BW400CN and Kodak Portra in 120. The numbers are clearly legible and I think there's an arrow that serves as a "warning" like the smaller "bubbles" on Ilford.

I've lost one frame on the Ilford but that's because I didn't know about the bubbles until I skipped them once. Maybe a little LED flashlight would help with the faint markings.

There's a thread either on RFF or somewhere that has pictures clearly illustrating different markings from different film companies. Wish I can find it.

Kodak 400CN is fine, but more than once I've gone past frame 1 with it. It's not that the numbering is faint, but rather that the 1 looks more like "l" -- a modern-styled "sans-serif" 1 that's ambiguous in appearance.

I'd love to see those pictures showing the backing paper markings. I hate losing a frame, especially when you only get 8 shots on 120 for a 6x9!
