I'm (almost) done

Thanks, Rover. I have 1.2 and 1.5 but am now looking at a 1.4, even though I'm done 😉 Need/Want a strong all around lens,
the 1.5 and 1.2 and the Nikkor 1.4 are great but special purpose wide open, IMHO ... I finally sold my Nokton that I wanted to use for
this purpose because it is so big and effectively a 1.6.

Roland.

Apparently the Nokton and Canon 1.4 are very similar in optical design. I believe I am correct in saying that the Canon lens is smaller than the Nokton, slightly larger than a 50 Summicron.

I'm close to being done. Still not sure about having two 35mm RFs, so one might have to go - M6 or Hexar - love them both and if I do ditch one I'll probably regret it. Apart from that I'm hankering after a 21mm and wishing I hadn't sold my CV 28 1.9.

Anyone want to trade a 21mm for a Hexar RF kit??

So in all seriousness, am I done? No.

I don't need anything else so I won't be buying anything like I have at times, but as opportunity arises.......

I admit it, I am a collector.

there is always therapy...😉

Actually, I am at piece, and am in no rush. I still have that collapsible Summircron, so some day maybe I will have an M2 to mate with it. That may be next year, or the year after that, who knows, but I am in no rush, no feeling of dire need. I think this is healthy, much healthier than wanting to buy every 50mm lens that was ever built (like I felt before the medication kicked in 😎 ).

I feel like I'm quite near being done. The only things that I feel that I need is a wide angle in LTM - Canon 28/3.5 or 35/2.8 - and a 14" Tele-optar for the Speed. It'll be awhile before I have any coin shy of a winning lotto ticket, so I'll be quite happy if I can simply have a few days here and there that were as productive as Monday was 🙂

Very happy with my kit of camera gear. Just looking around for a Leica Minilux (AF P&S version before the CM) I'd like something smaller than my Hexar AF and more substancial than my Yashica T4. Help me out if you can.

Anyone else (almost) done with accumulating gear?

Frank
For what it's worth, I had a Leica CM and over all I was not too happy with it, It had a few annoying "features" that kept me from wanting to use it, among them the viewfinder, the slowness and a cheap, almost delicate feel. I've never handled a minilux but being the older sister of the CM, I doubt it would be better. Some cameras that I prefer are the Rollei 35 and the Contax T2/T3. Of this, the one I like the most is the Rollei.

Lately, I've seen a slight trend of going lighter and I feel part of it, I've almost sold all the cameras I didn't use anymore, I'm keeping a Hexar RF with a Summicron 50 and a Rollei 35s. I just need a Summicron 35 and I'll be done. (or so I say to myself 🙂

Seriously, I'd be really happy if I can stay with just that and concentrate on improving my work.

There is some serious cognitive dissonance (i.e. denial) going on in this thread. This situation is often encountered after a major group GAS expulsion wherein there is a contraction period.

However, ongoing studies have shown that there is a clearly identifiable cycle know as: "build up - expulsion - satisfaction - regretment-self forgiveness and build up".

In essence, this a "meaning of it all" conundrum.

Is there a straight time-line from the big bang to oblivion or is there a cyclical nature to all existence and thus the procurement, disposal and re-procurment (ad infinitum) of RF gear? :bang:

Clearly the nature of existence is cyclical, as evidenced innumerable times in the various rhythms and cycles in Nature. For us, it is hoped that the cycles tend to form an upward spiral, rather than a downward one, or worse, the endless chasing of a tail.

With no other empircal evidence other than my own experiental instance I would suggest that the cycle is ever upward to wit:

A year ago I developed an interest in RF gear and finding this site procured a simple Argus and 35mm Graphica.

Familiar with SLR gear and the interchangeability of lenes I soon found that this was an unacceptable "level" for enjoyment of RF gear.

Thereupon, further familiar with the Nikon brand of gear I reseached and began acquiring said camera gear in RF format.

However, the Nikon line was a "dead end" but with the interesting revival thread of the Cosina offshoot. Additional dead-end offshoots such as the Contax (German) and Keiv lines have also been explored

This has provided an opportunity to develop a fuller level of Nikonian RF completeness.

Wherein now I should indeed say:

I AM DONE

However, recent interest in the M-mount line of equipment, with its myriad of possible "avenues" of pursuit have suggested that upon arriving at the top of one cycle - one simply seeks another to begin the challenge once again! :bang:

I could have saved myself a ton of money by getting into Leica straight away.

Yes, the logic always works out that way, doesn't it?

But I can't afford Leicas right now, and I won't buy on credit, so the path will be a bit more circuitous.

I would say I´m done but... there are two or three things I would like to find, a 28 or 35 mm and a 85 mm in Contax /Kiev mount. If they are Russian is OK, but I would prefer Zeiss glass.
Once I have them, I ´ll need nothing else.

Knowing they aren´t easy to find and usually a bit expensive, I´m thinking about getting rid of some gear I don´t use, just to make some room (increase wallet width) for them.

THIS IS MEANT TO BE FUNNY - NOT SERIOUS 😀 😀 😀

Thank you Ernesto,

Here we have a clear example of the denial phase of the GAS cycle.

You will note how Ernesto first states that he needs no further stimuli. "I would say I´m done" -

However, he then instantly negates that assertion by saying: "but...there are two or three things I would like to find, a 28 or 35 mm and a 85 mm in Contax /Kiev mount. If they are Russian is OK, but I would prefer Zeiss glass...."

Then, completing the denial syndrome he states: "....Once I have them, I ´ll need nothing else....."

Finally, based on the "Frank S. cyclical imperative" we get the "justification" statement:

"Knowing they aren´t easy to find and usually a bit expensive, I´m thinking about getting rid of some gear I don´t use, just to make some room (increase wallet width) for them."

Note: I am the most guilty and NOT DONE (yet)! 😎

I'm nowhere near done! I feel really good with the M4 and 35/50/90 combo, plus various other RF cameras that don't get a lot of use but I don't want to part with.

Then there's SLRs. On Monday I swore I was done buying any more OM gear, as I've settled on Pentax for the DSLR and decided I wanted a Pentax 35mm body as backup. Then I spotted an OM-mount 400mm lens (Asanama) for $39. What was I supposed to do? And they've got a 600mm sitting there for the same price. 🙄

And now there's someone offering me a medium format kit - two Mamiya 645 1000s bodies, four lenses, spare backs, filters, hoods, etc all for AUD$1100 (about US$825). Grrr! :bang:

Jon, 249 Pounds + $466USD for a new Minilux from Ffordes. Photo gear money is tight for me. I have to sell gear and/or use money generated through photography (which is not too much these days since I've stopped doing weddings.) I can only afford to buy used.

Here's an interesting ebay item: http://cgi.ebay.com/Leica-Minilux-Titanium-New-2yrs-Warr-Buyer-Protect_

edit: this link doesn't want to work, but the one in my WTB ad does.

BTW, my statement about getting straight into Leica isn't completely valid, since I would have missed the journey and experiences gleaned, that eventually led me to where I am now.

Don´t worry, I know it´s funny, not serious.

I know very well (and my wife too) that when I say "OK, I´m done" this statement will be valid until I find something else... regarding photography (not ladies!).

And of course it happens too often!

Is that GAS?

Cheers
