Hi Guys, (and especially B A Joe - How're you doing today joe ?)

Well, the RFF Birmingham U.K. Chapter, attended the Wolverhampton Camera Fair, in force today, - both of us !, me and Fgianni. we're spent-out folks. Heavy GAS.

I went with a list of rf possibles, having got all enthused by you guys talking about cameras I've never tried before, a with a yearning for something not too expensive and fun to use.

I ended up buying FOUR !.......

a Canonet 45mmf1.9SE, base wind-on lever with hinged tip. +erc

a Canonet QL 40f1.7, not gIII, +erc and good PX625

a Petri 7s 45f2.8, nice leather ERC and original cap.

a Voigtlander Vitomatic II 50f2.8 Color-Skopar, Prontor SLK-V, + erc

Now I'm DEFINATELY only gonna keep ONE of them, really, really !

At the moment I can't decide between the canons. - what can you tell me about the lens differences ? - the QL needs light seals soon and is small, but the canonet seems better built but older.

I shall soon choose which one to keep and offer the others to RFF members at cost if anyone's interested. (+ postage costs) cheapest was 10GBP/20USD dearest was 40GBP/75USD. all the shutters work, all appear to be able to be used manually (some are auto as well) because I checked the manually set speeds on them all before buying.

So, how do I choose which one to keep and use ?

p.s Fgianni bought a zorki 6 and an M4P, but I've already got those !

bump

why's nobody talking to me , what have I said ?

How do you do that box thing to enclose qotes ? - on the quick reply section I've got a little options square to check for 'quote message in reply' but it doesn't seem to do anything. I have to do copy and paste to make a quote. - help !

unfortunately, I don't have anything on that list, so the standard suggestion would apply. Shot a roll in everyone, and keep them ALL 😀... seriously, then pick the keeper.

I'd vote the same. The QL is the most modern of the bunch and will therefore have the best features for us spoiled city folk.

OK guys, thanks for the tips on the cameras.

I still can't make this quote thing work, (sigh). I've seen other posts with a box around the quote, does that apear with Poptarts quote/quote thing ?

To get this, I clicked the "Quote" button in the lower right hand side of this message.

Thanks Poptart, I hadn't noticed the quote box on the right, - I was looking at the little square thing at bottom left of quick reply.

I'm sorry if I talk too much, but RFF is good fun,

I don't get the 'New Jersey' thing, but there again i'm a 'Brit' in the U.K.....?????????

Well, dragging this thread kicking and screaming back to the OP, as has been mentioned the QL is the most modern of the bunch. It's also small and light - too small and light for my tastes. I didn't like the way it handled and it was so light that shake was a problem. Try it, the lens is very good.

OTOH, I'd love to give the Vitomatic a try, so let me know if you want to get rid of it.

Never heard of SNL !,

I had to google it, - said it was 'saturday night live' - something to do with a geezer called Dennis Miller, - never heard of him either !, - also said was something to do with 'Rowan & Martins Laugh In' - we used to get that 20 or 30 years ago, - Goldie Hawn was very good !

Maybe it's something to do with Sky subscription TV, ?, I don't have that, - just the good old BBC...... and Monty Python, don't you know !

OK William, thanks for the help. I'm inclined to agree with you about the QL, I think I prefer the earlier Canonet. what do you think the 45f1.9 is like compared to the 40f1.7 ?

I think it's highly likely that I'll pass on the Vitomatic II even though it's a really good solid little camera. You can be first on the list if you wish.

I've only used the QL, but that older one is still mounting glass from when Canon was making some of the finest lenses in that speed range. I'd be willing to bet that it's a nice lens, but I can't say for sure.

Just PM if you do want to give up the little V.V.II. and I'll see how badly broke I am that day... 🙁 (to paraphrase Erasmus, when I get a little money I buy film. If there is any left over I buy food... 🙂 )
