I'm glad I'm old and don't mind outdated digital interfacing!

Dear Board,

This is a shout-out to the staunch defenders of this site who showed up in force against the DPR refugee who challenged the format.

I'm just some nobody, but I have always been treated well here. I was on DPR long before a friend suggested this forum to me.

It was far more cult-like and far less welcoming than here, since its defining purpose was to advertise and sell cameras. The forums were just a sideshow, literally and figuratively.

I like this place for what it is, a place where photography enthusiasts can gather and chat.

Regards,

Tim Murphy

"outdated digital interfacing"

When I read the title of this thread I thought we would be discussing SCSI interfaces to digital cameras and TWAIN drivers...
I still have one, recently "mothballed".

I'm still looking for a good flash for a Retina IIIc. The trick is to get one with a PC cord and automatic.

You could get a hot shoe to PC adapter, than many choices for flash are available. "Outdated Analog Interfacing"

I thought maybe it was about the Leitz DOOCQ or the 16781 R, but then thought that was much too prehistoric. Then the same thought came to mind as Brian had - weird old scanner connections, just having gone through some recent electronic gymnastics to keep my 1999 Leafscan 45 going with its danged SCSI interface.

In Norway food is marked with: "Best before (date) but often good afterwards". I'm probably in the "good afterwards" category. I really don't care if the interface is outdated as long as it is user friendly and responsive. After the last update of RFF I dont find much to complain about, it's mainly a process of learning and make the best out of the functions available. Luckily we who are outdated will never get too old to learn new tricks.

D80, too funny.

Over 30 years ago now, bought this one for over $12K. Custom made by Kodak for Infrared. DCS200ir.
Came packaged with Photoshop 3.0, Twain Driver, and SCSI cable. Fixed internal 80MByte disk.

I have four cables/adapters strung together to get my Nikon scanner to work on a current Apple computer. Can't believe it even works, but it works well.

For me it's the content, not the presentation that matters. Inefficient presentation can be a worthwhile point of criticism, but merely being out of style is not, and that was the guy's chief complaint. In the case of RFF, it's substance over style, both in the format of the site and the content posted - glad that isn't changing any time soon.
