Last year, Ann Marks, the author of an upcoming biography available 12/7/2021 on Vivian Maier found me through some Rolleiflex articles I'd written, and also from my book Never Seeing Nothing. Ann wanted me to tech-check her manuscript to make sure the Rolleiflex related info was accurate.

It was fun to have some input. Soon after Ann gave my name to a French TV show on artists that was interviewing her for an episode on Vivian Maier. The show asked to film me shooting some street photos with my Rolleiflex in NYC. It worked out pretty well. I laughed when I saw that I was credited as Dan Wagner, Photographe du Rue. During editing, the actual photos I took were combined with footage of the shots as they were made.

The show will air in France/Germany on Sept 2, 2021, starting 4:55 pm Paris time.

You will need VPN to watch from the US. And the show will be available later in the week on the links below.

Great stuff, congrats!

I think the piece on Vivian Maier is airing next Thursday, 9th

You might be right. Perhaps 9/9 is a second airing. I think I'll try to watch on Facebook. They sent me a video of the show - not sure if it was a final version. I thought I looked dorky :) Would've liked to spend a lot more time shooting it - so I could produce better street shots. It is what it is.

Never Seeing Nothing will endure long after any temporary dorkometer reading! How many photographers really want to see themselves anyway? Congratulations on getting a sliver of what you deserve.

Robert,

Are we at RFF all "camera-nerds?'

Absolute congratulations, Dan. Long time fan, with "Never Seeing Nothing" a constant well-thumbed companion in my office.

Cal, I suspect it’s a mix of nerds, toads, badgers, go-bots, gearbots, winkers, blinkers, nodders, lowballers, naysayers, yesmen, whatnots—and the rare great soul. But mostly we recognize great souls and souls of great sweetness and light only after they leave our company forever.

But in order to really know, we really ought to have a poll. How many self-abnegating categories can we have in a poll?

—Back to the irregularly scheduled program on Dan, though! If it appears on FB, it should be viewable whenever afterward. I hope the first person to successfully view it will report back here with the definitive link.

What are the chances that I am one of these people? WOW! Look in the mirror and identify who you are! I hear "are you talkin' to me?!"

Thanks for the heads up, what is VPN? And does that mean it will be available on computer through Arte TV?

I would hate guess how many abbreviations there are that match other abbreviations. only one I know stands for Virtual Private Network. I don't know that much about them other than they are supposed to provide a network connection that is secure/private; only the person(s)you are connecting to can see/hear what you say or show.

Computer nerds and google are your friends.

Robert,

I can make fun of myself all day.

I can brag that one of my great talents is annoying people. Sometimes I even annoy myself. LOL.

I call myself a "Lazy-Slacker" but that is a mighty big umbrella that covers a lot of areas.

BTW clever people seem to annoy the masses.

OTH,

I'm far from a computer nerd, but at the hospital I work at VPN means Virtual Private Network.

Pretty much it works only if you have the password or a electronic key to pass the security checkpoint.

It is a way to secure entry.

Anyways it is there to deny entry and perhaps to prevent hacking.

Congrats Dan! Arte is a hell of television channel. It is all about culture and art - by far my favourite channel.

Your computer connects to the internet thru a unique address, a VPN is software that requires a password and routes your computer through multiple, always changing, networks around the world changing your address at each internet connection. Makes it difficult for someone to gain access to your computer through a back door. Companies use them (and still get hacked) but they're a must for us suckers also and usually hackers aren't going to spend an enormous amount of time trying to trace your computer address. Think of the spy movies where the good guys are trying to track down the bad guys computers and all these red lines are zipping around the world globe trying to get to the end address. The bad guy is using a VPN. You can get VPN for your phone (Apple has a free app), tablet, or whatever. It also pretty much puts a stop to all the spam from apps that track you. https://www.vpnmentor.com/in-usa-be...rtners&utm_term=best vpn&utm_content=best vpn

Congratulations Dan. And what exactly is your VPN and how do I get it?

So much knowledge on this site - always an education. I don't know my VPN - don't think I have one. I was just copying the info I got from the producers.

Congrats Dan, fantastic!
A VPN is used to circumvent regional blocks on streaming media, or so my daughters tell me.

VPN - virtual private network. Hides the local IP address and can make me look like I am connecting from somewhere else (depending on the server location(s) of the VPN provider). VPN services are prohibited or restricted/regulated in China/Russia and other similar places in order to restrict people from reaching blocked (locally) by government "foreign agents" media like BBC or CNN :)

Congrats Dan on being on Arte. It's a real dedicated "non commercial" art channel, quite popular in Europe.
