A very quiet George is over at APUG. Even in a PM he is being very discrete and not saying what happened. I missed it too... just like I missed whatever went on with FrankG to cause him to vanish (although I did catch the return of his alter-egos, which I found quite distracting, but comical).

Re: Bill, last time I checked (a couple of days ago) his account is still active. I'll bet he's reading but put on another layer of tape... this time over his fingers. He's quite a character but seems to be going through a depressive stage... perhaps he'll return when that gets resolved??

Even with the recent problems this is still the best place to be online. I really enjoyed your post. It is well written and thoughtful. This site has gotten me back into rangefinder photography. I had wandered away and you all showed me the way home. In 30 years I have not enjoyed my photography as much as I do now.

Good to hear you,keep us smiling!The weather in Wales is positively Texan!!My small Garden Allotment,which is kissed by the balmy breezes from the Bristol Channel,is in need of irrigation,lest my Spuds and onions wither away.
Good weather for colour photography though.

Well, this site is largely responsible for my purchasing a R3A from cameraquest this past May. I delayed for about a year not knowing if it was foolish to buy a film camera now or not, but this site, along with a few friends that have actually switched back to film from digital, convinced me to give the R3A a shot, so to speak.

There's always going to be problems of some sort with user communities, especially ones of any reasonable size. However, seems to me this site can weather it well. After all, I'm not aware of that many sites that have put out collaborative books like the way this site has. I think that in itself speaks volumes to the talent, quality, and decency of the folks at this site! And that's saying a lot form someone that tends to lurk more than anything else. 😉
 
Texas weather in Wales, Brian? Hmmm, not so good. In Texas, we grow baked potatoes. You just pull them out of the ground, add butter, salt and pepper and they're ready to go. Use a pot holder to harvest them, though.

You sent me a PM accusing me of making a post under the user name of Fiorello. I denied that I made that post and suggested that " you check the IP address of Fiorello before you start accusing me of stirring up trouble. I have no interest in bringing up these issues on this forum. The matter has already been settled by Jorge as far as I'm concerned."

In your second PM you wrote, "i did check the ip address but a re-route is easily done, i understand. rj, frankly i don't believe you."

Let me make this perfectly clear to you, Jorge and everyone else. I did NOT create the Fiorello user name and make that post about Bill.

I concur, Bill's apparent departure is loss to RFF. Yes, some people were offended by some of his postings, but he was also one of the most thoughtful and talented writers that frequented this site. Opinions are only opinions, and I can't see why folks took personal injury at some of the things Bill posted.
 
Just a couple of thoughts from a newcomer...

Firstly, though the vast majority of my photography has been SLR, this is the only photo forum I use, and that's because it's an excellent general photo forum and exhibits the passion that modern happy snappers have lost (if they ever had them).

Secondly, it took me until halfway through the thread to realise that it was Bill Mattocks who has left. And I'm sad, because he was already one of my favourites.

Oh well,
