Have you checked the thrift stores? I bought my Sony Trinitron monitor AND our Trinitron TV in one for a combined total of $37. I don't really notice the flickering, and you probably don't either if you like these. Not everyone does, and you can turn the refresh rate up to improve that.
I am pretty sure Dell and other manufacturers bought the rights on the monitors toward the end, so look to see if is says Dell, Samsung, etc in one area and Trinitron in another. Many hospitals still use masked LaCie CRTs for critical work in Radiology and Endoscopy, even today, because of their superior imaging. They are just incredible for accuracy and vibrant, true colors.
LCD, plasma, and other varieties are great for low shipping weight, they don't tie up desk space, and of course they come in the new longer HD image ratios. But they can be finicky to calibrate and keep calibrated, and I really prefer the images on a Trinitron. Just like I prefer Tri-X to digital :]

The Blue Bands of Death have returned to the Sony, and additional percussive maintenance is failing to deliver any result… so I've just ordered a NEC PA242W (24"). Hopefully it will arrive next week.
