Hi Mike,

With the lively X Pro 3 thread currently going on, it's nice to see real images from an X Pro camera! I have to say that this is not a lens I've used from Fuji because of reviews I read. And I am attached to the f 1.4 (yes, it's a bit large) Of course I loved the 18 f2 and that is also not one of the greatest Fuji lenses.

Your images here show that in practice, we have to really work hard to see softness in the corners (I believe that was a gripe). The rendering here above, smooth bokeh and subject isolation is very nice!

Hello David, and thank you.

People talk about softness in corners, vigginetting, smearing, purple whatever, flare, and a bunch of other stuff that is beyond me when they talk about the pros and cons of different lenses. I just put a lens on my camera and go shoot a bunch of pictures and hope for the best. If there is something wrong with my images it’s usually because of me not the lens.

These are the Fuji lenses I have and I’m pleased with all of them:

Fujinon XF 16mm f2.8 R WR lens
Fujinon XF 18mm f2 R WR lens
Fujinon XF 23mm f2 R WR lens
Fujinon XF 35mm f2 R WR lens
Fujinon XF 50mm f2 R WR lens
Fujinon XF 60mm f2.4 R Macro lens

I’m also interested in the XF 35mm f1.4 R but I’m taking a break from buying new stuff for now because, well, because I think I should. A little self discipline is always worthwhile.

Okinawa, 2019 - w/ X-Pro 2

I booked a VERY cheap flight during a promotion ($100 Round Trip from Bangkok to Okinawa) So I didn't have any checked bags. To pack light, I brought only this camera and the 23mm f/2 lens.

For the seagull shots I used manual focus. I set the focus on the distance scale to just under 1 meter, used f5.6 & ISO 200 which gave a 1/1300 shutter speed. Held the camera in front of me at the level of the gull standing on a railing and walked forward until the bird took flight and then snapped the shutter. I did that several times with different gulls, some shots are better than others. It was a nice day and I had nothing better to do!

That’s probably more detail than you wanted or needed but there it is.

Thanks for the explanation. Supposedly the focus tracking is pretty good on the XP3 but your way works just fine!
