Impressions of the X100

I borrowed a friend's X100 to try out during a visit to Hong Kong last week and posted some images as well as some impressions of the camera on my blog: (LINK HERE). Got some interesting images due to Typhoon Nesat that passed by which caused practically everything in HK to shut down.

I am quite impressed with the quality of the files the camera produces. My friend's camera does suffer from the 'sticky shutter' problem so it is off to the service centre for fixing or replacement.

Yes, i really enjoyed using the camera at night. The majority of the photos I took at night were at ISO1600, F2 with Exposure compensation set to -0.7.

Nice shot Derrick and I'm using the same setting as you too. As with any camera there are pros and cons and there will always those who prefer camera A to camera B, but I have to say I'm well impressed by it.

Interesting . . . I too have found, -2/3 to -1.0 is the right place for night urban shooting.

I think it is quite normal for me to automatically set the exposure compensation to -2/3 to -1 when shooting in darker environments. The exposure meters of most cameras (actually all that i have used so far 🙂 ) are fooled into thinking "it's too dark, so i have to let in more light" which ends up overexposing the image. The reverse is also true.
