If I could be granted one wish, it would be to be able to use leica M mount lenses (not necessarily leica lenses) on Nikon RF cameras. The best of both worlds!

Different focus cams...not possible.
But in an Ideal world the loneranger can use screw-mount Nikkors on his Leica via an adapter😀

If I was granted one wish, while it might possibly have something to do with mounting, it certainly wouldn't have ANYTHING to do with mounting Leica M mount lenses on Nikon rangefinder cameras

The difference between Nikon and Leica mounts is more related to the lens-mount-to-film-plane distance. The Leica lens mount is slightly closer to the film plane, so a Nikon lens can be adapted to fit because there is space for an adapter. The Leica lens could be easily adapted to fit onto a Nikon camera, but it would not be able to focus at infinity.

When I bought my S3 a short while ago, I was shown it equipped with a Leica 50 mm lens, which the seller did not wish to sell. He has access to a machine shop where he modified the lens mount so it would fit the S3. I'm not familiar with Leica gear, so I'm not sure whether the lens was originally an R or M mount, and I have no idea how well it worked on the Nikon.
I got the camera with a Jupiter 8 50 mm f2 lens which is ok to get me going, but will eventually be replaced with a 35, because if nothing else, I've never liked the 50mm focal length for street shooting.

The Jupiter-12 35/2.8 lens in Kiev mount fits nicely on a Nikon S3. Some might scratch the Nikon front plate. If so, the Jupter lenses are cheap enough that you can just file them down a little to avoid scratching.
Be aware that the J-8 won't focus well close-up and wide open. Stopping down to f/5.6 should be okay.

Fred, the J-8 is the Soviet 50/2 -- it suffers the Contax/Nikon focus issue. The J-12 is a copy of the 35/2.8 biogon. On a good day, you can pick up both of these lenses for the price of a cheap dinner out. That's why the interest.

I am sorry, but a cheap russian lens seems as interesting to me as a pinhole (actually a pinhole probably has more creative uses). Why put a $5 lens on a $2000 camera?

Because the Soviets used Zeiss tooling and Zeiss technicians to make premium-quality lenses for the proletariat masses.
More seriously, I have a lot of respect for the Kiev camera system and its lenses. They belong to the same family tree as Nikon RFs and share a lot of DNA.

I have no interest at all in Russian lenses. However, after disposing of a fair bit of disposable income over the years to get my SLR kit to exactly what I wanted, I don't have sufficient funds to immediately replace the mediocre Russian lens that came with my excellent user S3. I did purchase a very nice CV 21 f4 from Mike Symons, and am hoping to get an 85 next month if the stars all align as I'd like. But the Jupiter 8 50 is what I started with, and until my wallet gets a little more Turgor (look it up!) I'll have to practice with it.
