Hi rff,

long time no see!
I happened to acquire a 35mm V3 Summicron, which has been in service for half a year now.
Reason for that being, that it was stored incorrectly and the aperture blades started to rust.
The shop it is with, is trying to get some replacements, but no luck so far.

My hope is, that someone here just so happens to have a set of spares. 😀

If you have, please send me a message! 🙏

Best regards
Oliver

Ah now it’s an instant bokeh king.

Sorry, I couldn’t stop myself. Hope you find the parts!
Good point.. hahaha

DAG would be my first call, good luck!

Yeah, guess asking the usual suspects would be the best idea.
Leica themselves don't stock (understandably) and they also don't seem to have an alternative.

If the blades have started to rust I would worry about the condition of the optical elements.

I have never done it but there are techniques for re-blueing steel after rust removal.

The shop did already disassemble the lens and it should otherwise be okay (it was cheap in the first place), but I also thought about that, if none are to be found.

If the aperture blades are made of steel, cleaning the rust with laser and then heating the up to 300 oC in brass shavings are going to turn them blue again. This is a very simple process done all the time in horology to turn the steel hands blue.

Cool! I wondered how that was done.

It depends on the condition of the aperture blades. In the U.S., you can buy rust remover and bluing solution at most gun or sporting‑goods shops. As long as the stud that holds the blades in place hasn’t rusted away, the mechanism should be salvageable. Finding old Leica lens parts is extremely difficult unless a shop like DAG happens to have old or new stock available.

Ask the shop send the blades back to you, take photos with your lens SN send to DAG, if you can refurbish the blades yourself, you will save some money, but if you are perfectionist, buy from DAG. Good luck.
Not really in need to send it overseas. I rather get the parts to have my shop assemble everything. I'll see if the blades match and go from there
