In Praise of Don Goldberg (DAG)

My 85/1.4 was stuck wide open, and I had the lens sent to three camera repair people, but nobody managed to fix it. I was told each time that they could not get the spare parts to fix the lens, so I used the lens as a dark scenes lens. It works in harmony beautifully with the E-P2 M4/3 camera. The colors are amazing.

Don did a miracle repair job with this lens.

Mid fifties .... Can't remember if its 54 or 55
I find that hard to believe, not impossible -:) I'm 64 and sent my first Leica (an M4) to him in '81 or '82. I always figured he was older than me, but then again maybe not.

Does everyone know who his very famous (in the line of camera repair and innovation) was?

Don has been always very patient with me, and I've never been left behind, waiting for long periods of time for my gear. Granted, I assume that he'll take about 4 to 5 months to fix my stuff, but then, I don't want to disturb him or force him to hurry and then not let him work his magic.

Like Yossarian (Sam) and Raid, I always check with him before sending anything to his shop. He always gives me the go-ahead, and his work is above and beyond the call of duty. Not long ago, I sent him a note about a piece for my M2 (currently in the hands of Youxin Ye), and he replied within 30 minutes. Of course, he had the item and shipped it to Youxin.

There's no substitute for high professionalism... Thanks, Don!
