In praise of the M6 TTL

I have two TTLs, a .58 and a .72. They replaced an M4-2 and an M4-P. I have used Leicas since 1969 and these are my favorites (and the first with built-in meters, although I have long used SLRs (and now a DSLR) with built-in meters). After five years with these cameras, I have only recently had a flare issue, and that seems to be related to a project I am working on inside a cathedral where the flare seems to be casued by the light from the clerestory windows. I actually prefer the larger shutter dial.

Could those responders who've had their M6TTL VFs upgraded tell us where they had it done, and how much it cost?
 
There are two kinds of finder upgrades.

The less expensive one simply adds a condenser to the rangefinder light path. Removal of this part is one of the cost-cutting measures Leica made with all cameras from the M6 until the MP/M7 with upgraded finder.

While I don't know the cost, the MP finder is more expensive. It includes the condenser and a newly developed (in Leica time, anyway) anti-flare finish to the entire interior of the range/viewfinder assembly.

I like my ttl. I chose it over the M6 classic because the shutter speed dial turns the right way and is actually big enough to turn with an index finger without having to take the camera away from my eye; that dinky dial on earlier Ms is a bit too hairy a shirt for me.

I tend to think the VF flare issue is a little overblown. In six months of daily use, I think I've only had flare problems once or twice. Unless the situation deteriorates, I can't see paying for the upgrade.
 
i agree with matt that the flare issue is overblown. i wouldn't call it a myth, the patch does occasionally flare, but it is not that big of a problem.
i have two .85 m6ttls and a .85 m7 right now and i haven't found either m6 to flare any more than the m7, which is not often.
because of these rumors, i was very apprehensive about buying a .85. i'm glad i bought them now.
