In praise of the Skopar 35 'Classic'

After reading many favourable comments here, my new VC Skopar Classic 35mm, f2.5 has arrived, and yesterday I walked around York to give it a trial. The light was harsh and contrast high, and perhaps the film I had in the Fed 2 ( Portra 160 VC ) was not ideal, but I'm very pleased with this little lens, - nice handling, compact, and with a short focus-throw, and the first scans don't look too bad!....I think this may become a favourite!.......now where's that roll of Tri X

- later in the afternoon I screwed on an Industar 26m that came on a Zarya and has only been used by me, once,-the results pleasantly surprised me!

Agreed. I think the Skopar looks a little better, but surprisingly not that much.

Congrats on the new lens. The Skopar 35/2.5 Classic is one of my favourites - sharp and contrasty, and so tiny and easy to use.

I have this lens too, but whenever I use it I keep accidentally bumping the aperture tabs because they slide around so easily. Do your lenses have solid clicks when changing aperture?

This was such a problem that I replaced it with a V3 Summicron 35. Its aperture ring turns smoothly but solidly clicks at each half stop, making it easy to feel how many stops I've opened or closed without looking at the lens.

I have this lens and quite like it as well, though I find it produces a bit too much contrast. The small form factor is great though, which is a big plus. I've been using the 35mm f/1.7 recently, which I think I like more, though I haven't really gone out and tried to compare the two properly.

Very nice set, Dave, and triggered nostalgia for my student days in York in the '70s. The 35 skopar classic is an excellent little lens. Great for travel, street, and landscape photography.

Two scanners were used here. For the Neopan shots (earlier), a Canon 8600F was used. For the Tri-X shots, a Noritsu machine used by my developer.
