in search of the perfect strap...

Not perfect, but pretty nice. You can probably figure out the release procedure and the thing stretches out to about 58 in including the release.

when I bought my used X100 last year, the previous owner included a small Point and Shoot bag that had a 1/2" strap.

Since it was a black strap with snap hook, I thought it would make a perfect camera strap too and last month I entrusted it to hold my M240 and X100 while on vacation instead of bringing my red Lance strap.

Only downside for you is that the length is adjustable but in my case I never had any issues and actually found it useful. when I was expecting to shoot a lot, I would shorten the strap so that it rest on my chest.

Not bad considering I got it for free

here's some example and good thing is that they wont break your bank either

I took my X100T on a recent trip (first outing; used the strap that came with the camera) and found that I wanted to use the strap three ways - across the body, around the neck/in front and as a wrist strap. Needless to say, the Fuji strap was a pretty poor compromise. Did a little research when I came back and got the Peak Design Leash and Wrist Strap. Works quite well in all three modes, disconnects easily and can roll up very compactly for packing. Nice design and well executed.

i wound up buying a fairly standard strap with neoprene on the neck area...it's very light and comfortable and the length is perfect when adjusted to it's shortest length.
it works quite well with the xe1 with 27 attached.

On my Leicas I use fixed-length cloth straps with leather end fobs originally sold under the Voightlander name (a tissue moistened with acetone quickly removed the aformentioned name, followed by a damp cloth to remove any residual acetone). I believe these straps are now sold under the A&A name.

What I like about them is they wrap around the body with little added bulk, so the body slips into my bag compartments. And, they don't have nubs that chafe my neck as the OEM Leica straps do if I'm wearing a collarless shirt.

For heavier cameras I'm still using the OPTECH Pro straps I've had for 15+ years. They are about 2" at the widest, neoprene + elastic stretches enough to act as a shock absorber. For bags (other than Billingham where the straps are non-removable) I use the OPTECH SOS ("Saves On Shoulders") straps, which likewise stretch to absorb shock. Use those on shoulder luggage also.
