On my Leicas I use fixed-length cloth straps with leather end fobs originally sold under the Voightlander name (a tissue moistened with acetone quickly removed the aformentioned name, followed by a damp cloth to remove any residual acetone). I believe these straps are now sold under the A&A name.
What I like about them is they wrap around the body with little added bulk, so the body slips into my bag compartments. And, they don't have nubs that chafe my neck as the OEM Leica straps do if I'm wearing a collarless shirt.
For heavier cameras I'm still using the OPTECH Pro straps I've had for 15+ years. They are about 2" at the widest, neoprene + elastic stretches enough to act as a shock absorber. For bags (other than Billingham where the straps are non-removable) I use the OPTECH SOS ("Saves On Shoulders") straps, which likewise stretch to absorb shock. Use those on shoulder luggage also.
