Years ago I owned the GRD, loved it, killed it, regretted it ever since.

Since then I've had an Olympus pen which, whilst fun, it's too big and just, well, meh, it's not the same thing at all.

I have been lusting after the new GR but I'd have to wait until Christmas to afford it, particularly as I will never again have a camera without a viewfinder and boy....£150 for a little viewfinder, why?!

In between times I bought a GX200 and I'd be all too happy to go back to that with a viewfinder, not sure why I sold it, regret that too.

anyone any idea where I might get hold of one second hand in the UK?

Another thing i have noticed - the GXR cameras, they've plummeted, presumably as they're being discontinued but at £200 with kit lens they're very tempting nonetheless - I've heard there are issues with the auto focus speed though? If I were to go for one of these until the GR drops in a few years time, what lens combo ought I go for? I doubt I'll buy more than one so need it to be a semi-all rounder. To be honest, I loved the fixed lens set up on my GRD.

I don't know much about cameras - just what I've liked using. Confused and :bang: :bang: :bang: all I think I know is I want to go back to ricoh.

I've never had any GRD compacts but have recently bought a GXR + A12 50/2,5 + A12 M-mount. The autofocus of the A12 50/2,5 is really slow and hunts quite a bit in comparison to my OMD EM5. But I find the GXR is a good camera for manual focusing with the focus peaking feature. And it also produces great images.

However since you mentioned that you found the Olympus pen too big and liked fixed lens compacts, I'd probably say that the new GR is best suited for you. It'll be a Christmas gift for yourself :angel:

What are other choices of fixed 28mm lens compacts ? Another GRD? Sigma? Then there are zooms with 28 and 24mm at wide end.

Steer away from the smaller sensors in GXR units though, they are not nearly as good as the units with an APS-C sensor in them. Any unit name with an 'A' in it is an APS-C unit, any unit with an 'S' in the name is the smaller sensor and it is less pixels, less light sensitivity, more noise.

Love my GXR, even though I use it with the M-mount and it's not pocketable like that.

I think you're right and have ruled out the gxr

I've found a second hand gx200 that I could afford now (currently camera less) but I'm really worried about its low light issues...living in Britain, low light is generally what you get, aside for crispy winter mornings and the third weekend in June of a good year. I shouldn't be so facetious - we did have a good summer but boy did we wait a long time for it.

Anyway, going off topic.

Worried about the low light issues the GX200 has - I have to say, noise doesn't bother me much but it sounds like that's not the only problem?

OR there's a 12 month 0% scheme at only around £40 a month, which is fine.

are those schemes generally okay?
