That wonderful film by Wong Kar-Wai and sumptously shot by Chris Doyle - if you have not seen it do. The colours and retro look of the film are just wonderful and I have been wondering how I might achieve the same in stills. I understand that Chris Doyle shot it on Kodak 320T or similar, a tungsten balanced neg film (most movies being shot on neg). I had been wondering about shooting on say EPJ or EPT, filtering for daylight and seeing what happens. In the film, there is a coolness to the lighting (although I gather that the DVD transfer I have seen looks rather richer than the cinema print.) I was wondering if messing about with the materials might give a similar result. Has anyone tried this?
Shooting in daylight or with flash, an 85B would correct for 5500K daylight. If one's key light was 5500k flash interesting things might happen if ambient daylight colour temp was higher and/or there was warmer lighting about too.
