Industar-10/Fed-50 Filters

I just had my first roll of Tmax-400 out of my Fed-2, and I have realized how much in need of a yellow-green filter I am in.
My problem now is that I don't know how to look for filters for its Industar-10/Fed-50 collapsible lens. Could you help me on this please?

Look for "a36 slip on" sized filters. There are also some that "clamp on" which means they have a small screw to tighten the filter to the lens.

There are also lots on other brands around and filters for the Elmar lenses should fit as well.

Alex-photo has been one of my preferred sellers for a long time. I have red, green, and orange filters as well as yellow for my Industars.
Another solution for these lenses is to get a SOOGZ adapter and then you can use 39mm screw in filters. This is much more expensive, however. And, for my I-22 and 50 lenses, I had to wrap the lens with a bit of tape to get that adapter to fit well.

Alex-photo is one of my favourite sellers too. He is trustworthy, and his stuff is reasonably priced.
I will not invest on a SOOGZ adapter as I will not be in need for filters other than the essentials for black and white photography (although I see that the price of 4-5 filters make up the price of the adapter)..

I do have the SOOGZ; I originally got it to use on my 9cm Elmar. Mainly because I was not very happy with the a36 hoods I found for that lens.
As a bonus, I discovered that it would also fit my FSU collapsible 50s.
I also have (and quite like!) a rigid I-50 lens. That lens uses a 33mm filter which is a major pain to find. So the SOOGZ has made my life a bit easier for that lens.
Though, when I was going through Alex's listings to find an a36 filter to show you I did see he has several 33mm filters in stock...when I first was organizing filters/hood for my I-50, that would have been what I bought. And I may still.

After trying out the first roll, I have noticed photos being a bit on the soft side and in scenes with high contrast, mainly bright background, there is much flare. Is that normal for that lens? Could that be foggy optics due to fungus or something else? It is not too soft, but...

I cannot see anything from the front side, but I don't know how to remove that lens to inspect it throughout. I try to unscrew it, but it seems getting stuck to something. Is there a special way removing it?

Personally, I have found the FED 50/I-10 to be quite sharp. The two I have are pre-war uncoated ones too. Yes, they do flare somewhat and I'd think the coated ones would be less prone.

For disassembly to access the lens elements, you can remove the front and rear ones by simply unscrewing the innermost front and rear retaining rings with a lens-spanner. Usually, the front pair come out as a unit, after which they can be separated, if necessary.

And another silly question. How can you detach the lens from the body. What I have been trying to do is fully extend the lens and lock it in shooting position, move the focusing tab to 1 meter and try to unscrew the lens. It seems getting caught to something. Is there a special way for doing this? Does the lens lock in some position requiring a special move to unlock it and unscrew it?

As I saw somewhere, the only silly question is the one you didn't ask. You are using the correct technique to mount and remove the lens, so if it does not do so easily you have some issue. Next time the body is empty, take the back off and use a cable-release to lock the shutter open on B. Now try mounting and removing the lens, you can look through the shutter to see what's causing the issue. You could also check the lens threads & helical for signs of something rubbing.

On the FED 2, the RF arm and sensor are often a little low compared to other FSUs. This can cause the sensor to foul on a Jupiter 12 and I'd suspect that the I-10 could be prone to this too. Another possibility is a warped mount but you would notice that with other lenses too.

Thank you! I have successfully removed, cleaned the single back and the double front elements, put them back and secured them in place. Now I am anxious to get the next test film processed to see what I have done.
