Industar-22 lens hood

Hi,
I bought this step uo ring to mount a lens hood (diameter 40.5, in use on Jupiter-3) on the Industar-22 lens which has an outer diameter of about 37 mm. http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110408392602&_trksid=p2759.l1259
After the purchase, I have verified that 39mm Screw-in Vented & Tilted lens hood (in use on Color Scopar 35, 2.5) do not enter on the Industar-22, so I believe that the step up ring 37 mm - 40.5 mm is not good. I dont'know if the step up ring 40 mm to 40.5 mm works well on Industar-22 ( http://cgi.ebay.it/New-40-40-5mm-St...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e1293cf9 )... Can anyone help me, please?

The industar 22 and 50 collapsibles need a 36mm push-on hood. The small thread around the front element can take a screw-in (I think it's 23mm) but I doubt you'll find a hood that size and even filters are hard to find. There is no other thread possible on these.

The rigid I-50 does take a screw-in hood (33mm) or push-on (36mm). The easiest option is to look for one suitable for the Leitz Elmar (f/3.5) which is the same size and not too hard to find.

Whatever hood you use, it'll block the VF, even if you do manage to fit a vented one the adapter will surely block it (on the Zorki/FED 1 anyway). I tend not to use a hood unless it's definitely needed for the shot, then I use a push-on and an external finder.

Just take the hood of the old elmar, the fison, that is the one I use on my Industars because it fits perfectly (36mm):

Another solution - find a Leitz filter for the Elmar,
pop the glass and add a tube to the outside step

Hard to tell if that's a push-on 36mm - it mentions 37mm - though it looks like it. If so, it'll work. I'd ask because the rigid I-50 is more common and will take a screw-in.

If you can't find one, make one from black cardboard - cheapest option!

I'm afraid this hood is for another lens, the rigid version of Industar-50, see: http://is.gd/cNZyt

Same type of hoods can be found for Industar-26/61 lenses too and it fits even Jupiter-3 and -8. I don't think collapsible Industar lenses (10/22/50) ever had Russian made hood. I don't use a hood with my lenses but I admit it wouldn't hurt.

A member here Dave Wilkinson has made beautiful hoods for Elmar sized lenses. He is a GREAT guy and if he makes you one will not charge much! Try PMing him.
 
Thank you all for your suggestions, all interesting ... Considering the sporadic use of this lens that I do, I think I'll try to realize DIY one or I'll try to find a filter for Elmar to make the base of a tube lens hood.
 
Another good method is to find a suitable plastic bottle and cut it carefully, the neck portion can be ideal. Brake fluid often comes in black plastic bottles, no need to paint it that way. If you find a polythene one and want to paint it, here's a tip: immediately before painting, pass it QUICKLY over a gas-flame. Obviously, you need to do this quickly enough not to melt it! The flame oxidises the surface to give the paint a better "key" so it's less likely to fall off.
 
@ wolves3012: this is a great DIY idea! I just bought on ebay a cheap UV filter Actina 36 (push-on 36mm). I will try to realize and fix it on the ring of UV filter...
 
If you're patient you can find a 36mm push on hood on eBay. There's a seller called photowidgets or old cam or something that has them. That's what I used on mine.
 
@ Steve M.: thanks for information, I look the seller on ebay, so I keep the UV filter that I bought yesterday.
 
FSU sellers have them you just need to ask. I acquired a plastic and metal version a while ago from Alex-photo for about $5/each:

I'd recommend the plastic version because it has a stop ridge inside whereas the metal version can slide all the way in (off).

Another cheap alternative. I found a 36mm push on adapter for Series 5 (?) filters. Also came with a screw in hood. Found in a camera store junk box for less than $5. Found by taking my camera and lens to the store and trying out items from the junk box.

Encore: Wolves mentioned plastic bottles. I actually tried pharmacy (pill) bottles, ended up with the inner tube from a talc stick pre shave (poudre pre-rasage) made in Switzerland for Remington electric shavers.

For DIYers, I think a chrome plated brass sink drain tube might work very well.
Cut off of course. They usually have a flare at one end - pretty sure they make one in 1 1/2" i.d. size. I'll take a lens with me next time I visit the hardware store.

The plastic shaver tube tube was glued with Locktite brand adhesive sealant, and then wrapped with black photo tape. Inside was sprayed (can) flat black.

Note: I cut the tube back from it's original 24mm (in the photo) to about 12mm because it was vignetting with my Canon 50/2.8 ltm.
