Industar 26m set correct focus

Hi,

I am tring to use my old Industar 26m with my new Fuji xe-1 (fotodiox adaptor).

I noticed that the infinite focus (which is allowed by the adaptor) is not correct. I get infinite focus when on the lens is shown about 20 meter or less...

I tried (i did it already in the past) to unmount the lens but as far as i see the focus ring is on the correct place...

What to do for to fix the problem?

Also when i was using this lens on its original FED 2 i got very poor photos... (out of focus).

By it self the lens is quite good... and sharp.

Ye may have one (or more) lens elements positioned the wrong way round. This is not uncommon, from previous owners cleaning lenses then wrongly re-assembling...😎

If the lens by itself is good and sharp, all the elements are placed correctly. The only thing wrong with it is that the focussing ring shows an incorrect distance at infinity. The thing to do is to loosen the 3 grub screws on the distance (Focussing) ring, after you put your Fuji and lens on a tripod aimed at infinity ( say 50 metres) and put the ring at infinity (without losing your infinity in the viewfinder), tighten the 3 grub screws and there you are!

It's one of either two issues, the lens has a problem, the adapter isn't long enough, or both. I've never used a fotodiox adapter, but I've also never found any kind of adapter that focusses correctly to infinity - they all normally focus beyond. You can figure out if your RF is at issue on your film camera or if it is the lens itself by using ground glass and taking the back off (presuming you have a model that can do that).

It is very common for adapters to 4/3 cameras to focus beyond infinity, and I suspect you are seeing the same thing with your Fuji. If this is the issue it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the lens. I wouldn't mess with the focus scale if I were you. All it changes is the scale, not the actual focusing, and the scale will end up wrong if you use the lens on a LTM camera.

Thanks for the advices... I disassemblate the lens and put it back... the focus ring is fine... the lenses seems to be also ok...

I noticed that my lens doesn't stop at 1m but goes beyond it... it reach the M... is it normal?

Is it possible that the lens comes with defect? I have got the impression that the 2 screws which stop the focus ring are not placed in the correct place...

Yes the lens is supposed to go beyond 1m. I think the actual minimum focus distance is about 0.7m, but it isn't marked on the lens.

It's not 100% necessary to use ground glass, you could perhaps use fine tracing paper or something similar. If you do this you can figure out wether your out of focus Fed 2 pictures are because of the body or the lens. It is probably most likely that the rangefinder is not calibrated.

I made one due to the same problem. Small picture frame glass and regular cleaning powder from grocery store. Or use back of clear in color CD case.

Almost all FSU lenses I have goes behind one meter mark.

The range of the focus ring is limited by the focus mount inside the lens, and can't be adjusted. The focus scale should go right to infinity at one end and to a position half-way between the 1m mark and the M at the other end. If it doesn't do that, loosen the three small screws around the focus ring and adjust it so it stops exactly at the infinity mark. This will not change the actual focus of the lens, or the operation of the camera's rangefinder, just the scale.

If you have a camera where you can take the back off completely, it is easy to do the focus test. Stick matte transparent tape where the film goes, sticking it to the film rails, not the edge of the frame. The idea is to have the tape exactly where the film is. With the camera on B and the lens at f2.8, you can check the real image to see if the rangefinder of the camera and the lens construction are accurate.

Mine stops at infinity but goes one centimeter beyond the m1 mark. The lens focusses okay on my Fed2 on all distances.
