Industar 50 vs. 22

Hey Guys,

I just bought a rigid Industar 50 to use with my Bessa R. I ran a test roll and was very pleased with the results; focusing up close and at infinity is just fine. Since this lens works so well is there any sense in looking at an Industar 22 and having to deal with the potential collimation issues? Is there much of a substantive difference between the 50 and 22 in image quality? How about between the Industar 50 and the Fed 10? Industar 61/LD?

I have all four of the lenses you mention, I do not see much difference between the I 50, I 22, and the Fed 10 lens.
But the I 61/LD produces images with more contrast than the other Soviet Tessars.
My I 22 is very much like my 50mm f3.5 Elmar in image signature.

I have seen no real difference between my I-22 and I-50-2, but Maizenberg lists the I-50 as having a higher resolving power. My Fed 10 seems a little sharper than my I-22 (it is supposed to be sharper in the center, but with softer corners), but it is clocked wrong for a Leica/Bessa so until I fix my FED camera I don't shoot it. The 61/LD is right up there with modern standard lenses once stopped down a bit. The I-26M isn't bad either (nicer design than the I-50 IMO with similar performance (stopped down... it's very soft wide open). The reason to get an I-22 is for the collapsible part...

The Jupiter is ok too, but my CV 50/2.5 Color-Skopar blows all the FSU lenses out of the water.

My current user lenses for LTM are the Color-Skopar, I-22, Jupiter-8.

I've used the FED 10 (uncoated) collapsible and the I-22 and I-50 lenses. There may be slight technical differences but in "normal" use I can't tell them apart

I wonder why you are ignoring the faster Jupiters.

Well, I can see Skopar being better at flare control. But other than that - some well adjusted Industar or Jupiter can beat it no problems. I used to have J3 and J9 and they were very good. I still have I-22 and I got some of my most favorite pics from it:

I have a later (coated) FED-10 and it is virtually indistinguishable from a Leitz Elmar of the same era. Amazing lens.
