Hi,
I blame it all on Kuvvy, He sent me a dead Zorki 4K. Actually it was really great of him. I managed to sort the problems out but this led to another GAS attack :bang:

Anyway I got a Jupiter 8 for the Zorki which was only $4 because it had a hair in it. It turns out that this is so minor, it probably won't affect any pictures but if I can clean it so much the better. Then I saw this Fed 4 with an Industar 61 at about $10 and as the Jupiter hadn't arrived, I thought the lens might be better. It turned out that the FEd was in great shape but the lens really does need a good clean and definately a re-lube. The old grease has very very manky.

Can anyone point me to a good link to taking these lenses apart?

Regards
Kim

There's a site about relubing Jupiters as well but can't find it back right now. Google should turn it up.
It is however very simple. There's the outer ring on the backside of the lens, which can be removed by i think 3 screws, the focusing ring comes off then, and there's a screw inside with a big head which blocks the lens focusing below the mini9mum distance (thus blocking it from completely screwing out the inside of the focus helical). I think in the case of the Industar it's enough to remove this and then you can take the helical apart. The Jupiter has a second screw blocking it on the other side, past-infinity, you have to remove that too.

Something like this...It was half a year ago when i did this, both w jupi-8 and industar-61L/D, LTM mount. But it does not take longer than 40-50 minutes per lens, most of it being cleaning up the thick grease.

Don't forget to marh where exactly the helicals come apart, since they can be screwed back at multiple positions and then the focus will be off.

:D How are they doin', Remy? Did they already dry out or got filled up with Mongolian sand or something? Did you use them at all?

As it is, I haven't used either very much. :p

But they still work nicely and I intend to use them (at least to test them) as soon as the RD-1 shows up.
