He doesn't appear to be using it for that shot, unless he wants a shadow of himself and fill flash bounced upwards ?

I'm figuring out what I'm seeing:
- Ring-light flash on the camera
- Five strobes (SB-800s ??) on his backpack. Pointed down, up, to the side, three with white cards
- No cords, no radio slave, so must be Nikon CLS triggering all of these.
Something else, reasonably big, is above the camera body. What?
I thought once about putting a big silvered light bouncer on a backpack. Then, I quickly went on to think about other things.

😀I know but I did not mention flash ! I meant instead of the insane ammount of flash gear. I was being ironic .....

maybe all those strobes are to blind other photogs so he gets exclusive shots

That's a thought ! Each exposure would be visible from space too !
