Insane price ? for Zeiss Ikon Super-Ikonta 2,8/80 Tessar, 532/16

i knew before even looking whom the seller would be. they (PA) always have outrageous prices. its missing the wind knob as well..so i dont see hows it 'fully funtional'!!

i can say from my experiance they are terrible to deal with and best to stay away from.

these come up reasonably often and can be had in better nik and at a fraction of the price of this one (heck dam near 10% of that price at times)

i think i payed $140-150 for this

Why did I think that this was one of Photo Arsenal's cameras even before clicking on the link? I'd bet dollars to donuts that these folks are couple of really smoooooooth talkers in person. Highway robbery by computer has many forms and this is one of them.

I must say this is a fantastic camera. It has the nicest, most professional leather case I have ever seen or felt. A work of art unto itself. I'm lucky enough to have one in mint condition. The camera can be gotten in prime shape for a much lower price. Heavy but a real gem.

Arsenal's prices are as ridiculous as Camera$ (and his other IDs), kevinscamera and Pacific Rim Camera, which sells junk (literally, crap that almost always has horrible physical issues) at premium prices.

Camera$ has three rating systems: Gorgeous, Beautiful and Rare. He currently is selling an Ikophot selenium meter for a BIN price of $148 with an opening bid of $128. Actual market price is about $20.

Kevinscameras seems to have good gear but at inflated prices. His product photos are of generally poor quality for the prices that he asks. He should have much better photos for anyone who is considering paying top dollar/euro.

But, to each his own. And if they can find a buyer, that's their right.

The seller that cracks me up is the member446885. I've bought from this seller before. Generally, all cameras are described as "optically perfect" but the ones that I've received often have had either minor to moderate rust or corrosion. The seller's photos of the products have improved. There was a four- or five-year period where the seller managed to NEVER take a photo that was in focus, not blurry and not yellow.

I know it's Hong Kong, but still...

Not sure I would buy anything from the pictured crew in person.

First off, it is a medium format camera that uses 120 film, so of course there is no rewinding crank. You don't rewind 120 film. That is the film advance knob that's missing. Second, if it's missing, and you can't get the film to advance to the point that you can take a photo with it, how can it possibly be "fully functional?" Third, does "BC" stand for "beyond consideration?"

"... as well?"

Uh...

Think a minute, Chippy. That's a 120 film camera. There's no such thing as a rewind crank on a 120 film camera -- any 120 film camera -- because you don't rewind them.

Now if you REALLY want to get ripped off: http://cgi.ebay.com/HOLGA-120-GCFN-...ryZ15248QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i dont need a minute!!......i meant film wind knob as in 'film wind on/advance' knob...i didnt say re-wind . i think i have used enough 120 cameraover the past twenty years to know they dont rewind!! i think you would know that as well

i didnt actually notice that they had mentioned it in their ad until after i posted, i saw it first in the picture that the film wind on/advance knob was missing.

incidently ZiessFan i didnt realise that Pacific Rim were the same people..that explains a lot

I believe Pacific Rim is a whole different outfit out of Salem, Oregon and most of what they offer is in totally beat condition. I went to visit their physical address back in 2000 and found a smallish, strip center, store front with all the windows papered over from the inside.

Boris better known as Arsenal kept a physical address in Nuremburg for a few years. Now he's operating out of HK - an interesting location for an Eastern Bloc expatriate.

The other scalpers - Camera$ - are out of LA. It would be interesting to find out whether another Eastern Bloc expatriate is operating that outfit.

interesting little bits of info there Andrew...always good to hear the fun facts so to speak.

an interesting location for an Eastern Bloc expatriate.
i feel i am missing out on something intriguing here!

things may of changed with Arsenal but last i knew (about a year or so ago)they had an office (and presumably a shop front-but if not i did have an address on them) in germany and also the place in HK at the same time.

In some ways the issue with the likes of Photo Arse'nals really rests with the people who keep them in business. Someone must be buying at these prices or Photo Arse'nal would be doing something else, perhaps dealing in hubcaps or midnight auto parts.

i didnt say re-wind .

I know you didn't. You said "as well," as in: in addition to the rewind crank, mentioned in the ad, the wind-on knob is missing as well. I know it was just a dumb mistake and that you know better, but I couldn't resist poking a bit of fun. To tell the truth, I was very surprised that no one else jumped on that bit of the ad immediately. Just from reading the thing, I'd have to guess that whoever wrote it either hasn't got the least iota of a clue what he is talking about or has adapted a pre-written description without paying much attention.
