i'm stupid, i should have called you RML, completely forgot about the fact that you live in amsterdam!! :bang:

You wanted to get out of the house too? 😛

and to be clear, I WAS OUT SHOOTING THIS MORNING!

That is great. Getting out in that cold must be a real shock to the system; be careful!

Have you ever tried the small chemical heating pads that go into socks, gloves etc.

I have arthritis and have found them to be great when hunting. I will put a pair in the top of my gloves/chops in the mornings and they will keep my hands and fingers warm all day. Likewise for my boots when it really gets cold.

So what film/filters are you shooting and is there snow?

i have shot at -40 and no face freeze.

my biggest problem lately is my health. my blood pressure is being kept lower than normal so that my heart doesn't have to work too hard (my understanding) and i think this keeps me from feeling very warm most of the time.
usually i am able to handle the cold outside fairly well but these days i am cold inside with the temp at 21.

Keep it up, Joe! Don't over-exert yourself. The cold and the wind can be dangerous, even when one isn't recoevering from a heart attack.

And for god's sake, whatever you do, don't try sticking your tongue to the Canons ! Would be way hard to explain later in hospital...

Ditto. My BP went kinda wacky earlier this week and I've been confined to home to rest and take beta blockers since then. Today, I decided I REALLY had to try out that new-to-me Fed that arrived, so I loaded a roll of Silvertone 400 and toured the house taking pictures. The negs are drying.

before looking for inspiration, review your best work to date. it gives you some direction and a keener eye for what's significant about other people's work.

Bit ot, regarding cold and gloves.

Some time ago I saw an interesting kind of gloves advertised at a sports chain magazine, basically they had some internal piping all around , and a plastic valve outside. You could blow your warm exhale in there and help keeping your hands warm. I found it a clever idea, and wondered why they didn't make any other cloth piece with the same system.

But working some cameras/lenses with gloves is a real pita....

How about some food ? I mean cooking it, taking picture of it and finally eating it! With a good glass of red wine, I suggest. ciao

A couple of shots from my tour of the house with the Fed-2e and Industar 26m. Film was Agfa Silvertone 400 developed in Rodinal 1:50.

Very nice bokeh, or is that grain?

Today was and still is sunny, but I loaded my 35RC with HP5+ and I don't have a yellow filter. Just a B+W UV----which is fine for indoors and flash. My flash units are too large for the little beast. Mybe I should put the 285HV on 'er and flash it with my GSN using the other flash. Now that would be a picture! 😎

I think it's both. Silvertone seems a bit nicer than the old APX 400 (even though I'm told it's the same thing) and I love the OOF qualities of those FSU lenses.

-14 today, with the wind chill -22...and i ventured out for a few shots, that was after i scraped the frost off all the car windows while the car warmed up enough to drive.

the 35/3.5 remained smooth but the fog from my breath hindered focussing a bit.
the good news is that my touque did not get in the way of shooting but those big mitts did slow me down a touch.

ah, and it's not even officially winter yet...😉

Joe, I can sympathise. We are having similar, but opposite difficulties here in the southern hemisphere. I keep my developing kit in a cardboard box in the kitchen, and it's been consistently 25 degrees (C) here for the last few weeks. I've had to chill down the developer with iced water to get it to the correct working temperature! 🙂

The challenges we face to follow our dreams...

What's a "coffee achiever"? I'm not sure I want to go to a shop where coffee is an achievement.

Here's a meaty subject you could try

You won't like my suggestion then.

Seems to me like snowy weather is the world's biggest softbox (unless it is actually still going). Grab a card table, and some random ordinary everyday objects, head outside and do some still lifes. Black cardboard can help with making light directional again.

thanks Peter, I guess we're having Joe inspired with this ? 🙂 Btw I love the glass jar shot, it's a really pleasing photo to look at.

Winter here is mostly grey and muddy, not much snow so close to the coast.

Here are two indor shots, the B/W one is Trix-X in a Kiev4 with a J-12 metered with a Leningrad 7 to test metereing and if I can use the viewfinder for 35 and the colour one is cheap Agfa 400 in a Contax G2 with a Planar 45.

I hope to get some christmas market shots tomorrow.
