Interested in a non movie taking DSLR

In agreement with several others...

My first choice would be the D300 as it can produce nice color images at ISO 800. Second would be the D200. The color performance at ISO 800 is marginal, especislly for shadow regions. So if you rarely use ISO 800, the D200 is a great body for the money.

I am deciding on the 3100, Adorama has refurbs for $349.
However, I am keeping my eye out on that Bessler T for about $900 after I sell some books on Ebay. Need Tums, too many bean burritos, or is it....?

Thinking ahead...

All good but the one of the big reasons I suggested a Canon is because you can use Leica R glass with one adapter only. That's a no brainer for me.

Nikon are great cameras but you have to remove the leica Bayonet mount and replace it with something aftermarket.
Not such a big deal but you have to do it to every R lens you want to use on your Nikon. $$$

I have a 1Ds Mkii and I call it "THE BEAST" 😎

The real $$$ here is for the bag of R lenses I don't recall him mentioning he owned.

To the OP; get the D3100 or the D90 or D200 or whatever strikes your fancy; coming from a N8008 it'll operate and feel almost the same and use all your lenses as well.

The Nikon D200, D300 and D700 had no movie recording ability. The three can be found on the second hand market, and the three are remarkable professional tools, way better built than the recent all-plastic models.

+1. Any of these should do the trick. i owned both a D200 and D700, and used them for countless commercial shoots. Neither camera ever let me down.

I'm sorry to inform you that this condition is incurable.

O.k., I lied, or as I tell my wife, I've changed my mind. I've ordered a D5100 plus a 35 f1/8 AF-s, both refurbs from Adorama. I had enough book sales to pay for it without charging anything on my Bill Me Later account.
Same lenses as the 3100 for $60 more. I'll save the charge for the Ricoh GRD that suppose to come out this month.
I thought about a FZ 200 which is the same as the Leica Vlux 4. I could cut out a little red sticker paste it on, gaff tape the Lumix and pretend I'm the owner of a Leica. Thats not unethical is it? Then again that X2 is less than 2K. I would like a small camera with a big telephoto.... list
Nikon wanted over $100 to fix the film door on the 8008 (maybe its a 6006). Thats why its in the closet.
The extra lense I'm buying for the D5100 is my first, everything else i have is attached to the camera.
Amazon has a Bessa R2A for $700. Tha would look nice next to my Argus C3 and Yashica GSN.
Its my birthday and I deserve a nice present....

Both the lenses included are non-VR, you can buy the 18-55mm for $50 on ebay and the 55-200mm for $100. D3100 has a crappy tunnel VF of entry level DSLRs, its RAW files are compressed and you can get it used for $200 very easily--basically that is a $350 deal.

The entry level DSLRs really don't make any sense with all the cheap mirrorless around.

There is no new DSLR without movie mode. Just don't use it, if you don't need it.

Well there is at least one DSLR without a movie mode - the Sigma SD1. But that is above budget for Jim anyway. And it isn't very good in low light compared to the competition.

If you don't need an optical viewfinder, consider micro four thirds - either Panasonic or Olympus with the 16 MP sensor. The Panasonic G3 is cheap now. It has a movie mode but is easily ignored. Jim might appreciate the light weight of these systems and they with the 16 MP sensors, they are now very good in low light.

Jim, you can probably buy a film door on the auction site for only a few bucks. Or, just buy a whole new 8008 (or 6006) for $20. Your new DSLR will be great, and then you can shoot film with your Nikon glass as well.

FWIW, I thought I would use my older Nikon lenses on my DSLR, but I just don't. The 35 f/1.8 G is terrific. Enjoy!
