I got the "low resolution" M10 instead. It will do. The price is not bad for the M10-R. I don't think that in my use of cameras that I would make use of such a high resolution camera.

The price was the main reason why I chose to buy a regular M10 and not wait for the M10-R. Brad sold his M10 here at RFF for $5600 or Euro 5000.

Raid, I'm curious about your source for this. I hadn't heard that the M10-D was discontinued. (Not that I can or could have afforded one, but I like knowing that this camera exists in case I ever win the lottery.)

Same sensor size, reduced quantum receptor surface area... so how can the same or improved DR be delivered? Quantum depth is proportional to CSA x Depth. Can someone explain.

I'm actually surprised at the price. Current prices @ B&H are M10 $7,995, M10P $8,795. The camera seems to be the M10P + new sensor so I can't understand why the price would be less. Perhaps the other two models are due for a price reduction.
Still not likely buying one though...the M10 is more than enough for me.

The M9 released at around $7000 in 2009 right?
Inflation calculator says that is $8411 in 2020 money.
So...
Better question is whether or not the price of any Leica is "worth" the premium over the competition, brand loyalty aside (I say as a former M9 owner, purchased used for $3000 and later traded off for a film camera+cash).

The prices are astronomical - unless they are not astronomical because you can afford them. But what I wonder is whether digital camera manufacturers - even Leica - are on a kind of resolution escalator attuned to the improving technics of screens and transmission - as well as competition from cheaper media (eg phones).

Ok, I see the point - which goes something like - a M camera need not compete on resolution. Leave that to the new mirrorless cameras and fall back to b&w on a dedicated digital M. Makes sense ?

I like my M262 as a digital M rangefinder user.
From what I've read about the higher ISO performance of this new body, the Leica CL with the 24mp sensor and using the two 11-23 and 55-135mm zooms to better frame anything I'd want to shoot and virtually eliminate any need or want to crop, and given how well the CL performs up to ISO 6400 (even 10,000 really in auto ISO), I'm pretty content to sit back a good while longer with what I have.

Doesn’t seem any more ridiculously priced than any other M10 on launch date.
