Hello!

Long time lurker, recent member and this is my first post. I'm a fairly new student of photography and have been shooting with a Pentax SLR (Pentax ME) and DSLR (Pentax K100D) for a little over a year.

I bought a used Contax G2 and a 45/2 lens a couple of weeks ago. I particularly enjoy shooting at concerts and had been considering purchasing a rangefinder for its inherent advantages over SLRs in low-light.

Purchasing a camera a few hours before photographing an event is not terribly wise, especially when one has never used a similar camera before. Feeling uncertain about my handling of the G2, I shot just one roll of TMAX 3200 (the store had run out of Delta 3200) and used my DSLR for most of the photographs. However, the G2 really came through for me - the ease of focus was stunning to me and the results were really nice!

Since then, I've shot a roll of Ilford XP2 for some general "street photography" and plan to use HP5+ on my coming photo-excursions.

Here are a few of my shots using the G2 in the past two weeks.

Nice shots. The two men and their bikes on the beach is a great shot, IMHO.

And wow, TMAX3200 is grainy. Not that I'm surprised, I've just never used it :)

Welcome to the forum Nikhil. I too like the the photograph of the two men with their bikes. Thanks for sharing these with us.

You stole my words and thoughts...

The very first cameras I bought for me were Pentax MX's (black bodies).
I gotta love anyone shooting with Pentax...welcome...

Thank you all for your kind words!

TMAX 3200 seems to be a nice enough film to use in the absence of Delta 3200. I haven't shot enough with both films to make an informed choice. I'm going to try shooting a roll of Neopan 1600 in addition to Delta 3200 to see if I like that.

Marc, some very nice photographs in your gallery!

Steve, I agree with you. I was just a little nervous about using a G2 that I had bought a few hours earlier at a concert that I really enjoyed and wanted to have good photographs of. It is a testament to the ease of use of the G2 that I was able to use it very intuitively and with no problems whatsoever. More photographs (shot using the DSLR) of the concert are HERE.

Nikon_Sam: Thank you! And I gotta love anybody that loves Pink Floyd ;)
