There is a big difference between "incognito" and "commando!"
I have my settings on "invisible" due to a sort of inchoate paranoia about being a chick on the Internet, which used to be a weirder experience than it is now. There doesn't seem to be any compelling reason to go back to being visible so I'm going to remain invisible for now.

I am invisible from time to time because I want to see if the curse-editor software catches the same words it does when I am visible. Worth a try at least.
And please, never bring up the episode about Joe eating a banana while moderating. Never.

Like I said, it isn't rational, but I tend to get kind of nervous about being too easy to "find" (which makes no sense since I have a personal webpage with my professional contact information, etc.) so the idea that folks can see when I'm on and what I'm reading at any given time kind of weirds me out.
Back when I first made a webpage (in college) it was during a period where it was unwise, if you were female, to even put a picture of yourself online lest you receive a zillion emails from freaks who would write to you simply because you had two X chromosomes. I realize that the Internet is no longer the sort of frightening, unknown place that it was back then, but remnants of my prior caution still remain.
I've also been stalked in my time, which makes me a bit more circumspect. Not very logical -- if I were truly worried about it I wouldn't have a Web presence at all and I certainly would not spend as much time as I do participating in online bulletin boards. But like I said, old habits die hard.

I apparently use it. I have no idea why or when I started nor do I have any idea why anyone would be curious about it. There are mysteries in the world more worthy of wonder than this is.
The User CP button in the Aqua skin does not appear to work, so it looks like I'll be sticking with the invisible deal for a while.

No, I can't help feeling that there is something dishonest and sneaky about it. I'm not saying that those who do it are, it's just the way I feel about it.
