iPhone 7, who's getting it?

what about those things that plug into an iphone...like the square...to pay for things...no good anymore?

They're now obsolete, but there are millions of iPhones with headphone jacks in the market that can use them (and will be for years to come). They will most likely work with the iPhone 7 Lightning to audio jack dongle. Most of the card readers and such I've seen in use recently have Bluetooth interfaces anyway, and they seem to work more reliably than the headphone jack models did.

I don't have much to care about one way or the other regard the headphone jack change, personally. I can use my EarPods or other wired headsets same as I've been doing for years with the dongle, if I want to, or use the stand and its audio-out jack, and my three-connector audio connector cable to record audio off the iPhone will work just fine with either too. I'm not sure I understand all the brouhaha about it. People always seem to want to complain about something, I guess.

The headphone jack will turn out much like the CD/DVD, I assume.

Many thought Apple was crazy when they put one into the Macintosh IIvx, and crazy when it was taken out of of the iMac etc. My first one was in a 660AV, I was amazed.

Now I see someone selling DVDs on the subway, and wonder who still has a player.

Nah, I upgrade my phone every four years or so, and just put my iPhone 4S to rest and picked up an SE. I also like the smaller phone size, so none of those new ones would work for me.

My sentiments almost exactly!

I currently have an IPhone 4 and am finding that I cannot use some apps because my IOS is 7.1 and cannot be updated. Most of the apps I've tried to install require IOS of at least 8. The phone works great but I can see an upgrade in the very near future. I'll probably get an SE but I won't get an IPhone 7. I was looking at getting the SE at Costco so hopefully that option is still available.

scary that its 12 MB which is equal to my x100!! Purely from a MB standpoint that is….. but no my iPhone 6 gives good phone calls!

IOs 10 has Raw camera support.
That's more exciting than the new phone.

I'll stay with an "old" 6plus for now.
I like wired headphones and have several and a extra dongle is not appealing.

I've plugged a memory card with RAW files into my iPhone 6 and PS Express was able to open the files. It was a waste of time though because the phone itself could barely keep up with the processing.

The iPhone 7 does have more processing power (and RAM) than the iPhone 6.

It's an analogous difference to my iPad mini 3 vs iPad Pro 9.7. For example:

- Move 20 24Mpixel raw files into the iPad
- Open with PhotoRAW
- Process and generate to full resolution JPEGs

That operation on the iPad mini 3 takes about 12 minutes, and on the iPad Pro 9.7 it takes about 4 minutes.

More RAM, more processing power ... 🙂

Nah, no, My Iphone 6 does me Fine
Got it when it came out and see no reason to update for another 4 years ...😛

This buy new gadgets every few yrs is plain crazy !!!
The poor enviorment ...

No.

I hate Apple and its products with a passion.

Apple is a cancer that limits the freedom of users, music lovers, and programmers.

Whoa. Although Im not that passionated about my dislike of Apple, I like Android phones better.

Honestly, cant justify spending that much money due to the fact that I only use my phone for calling and perhaps whatsapp now and then (perhaps once a week). To expensive for something I would barely use.

Absolutely and will get on the gravy train with the Apple upgrade program...$40 a month for life and a new phone every year. This is just about the same as it was for the first few phones (actually the first iPhone was a joke...bought it for $200 with ATT contract and sold it for $700 on eBay which was silly good).

I love my Fujifilm and Nikon cameras but truth be told I take more photos with my iPhone than everything else combined...this is a cheap camera.

Missing: Microphone Input Jack

Missing: Microphone Input Jack

What's missing from the new iPhone is a microphone input jack. The old 3.5mm "headphone" connector wasn't just for left/right audio out, it had a 4th connection for microphone input. Which is (was) extremely handy for iPhone videographers, who could use an external, high-quality shotgun mike with dead cat wind muff and record this high quality sound to the iPhone, then edit their video in iMovie.

So unless some 3rd party comes out with an Apple connector type of microphone input adapter, this new phone represents a "game changer" (in the worse sense of the word) for those using mobile device for video work.

I wonder if Apple even understands their market, that creative types like to use one ecosystem, and now they've just made it much more difficult.

Unnecessary.

The audio jack dongle (included with the iPhone 7) includes all the same connections necessary to use the wired EarPod headset. Therefore, it also includes the microphone input, same as the standard audio jack on earlier iPhones.
