iPhone light meter apps

I wasn't too impressed with Pocket Light Meter on a iphone4. Compared to Sunny Rule/16, the app seemed to need some compensation to get it close. Sometimes needing +2/3 to +1 1/3 stops.

There are now quite a few light meter apps on the Apple App Store.

The one I like is "Pocket Light Meter" by Nuwaste, shows up on the phone as "Light Meter."

My solution: Create a new Apple ID with a different email address, and use this ID only on the extra phone.

We are all accumulating old unused iPhones. What to do with them?

I use Foto Meter Pro most of the time, but the Luxi attachment and the light meter app designed for it is the most accurate (http://www.esdevices.com/products/luxi)

Got a Lumu a couple of weeks ago (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lumulabs/lumu-bringing-light-meter-to-the-21st-century). -4 EV sensitivity. Works great, surprising really. More on this later.

I don't agree with this recommendation. Multiple accounts for this purpose will just add complexity to the whole situation. There are simple switches to just set to off to disable mail, calendar etc. of course the Apple ID is used for iCloud email and calendars etc, but from the system perspective it is in no way related to installing apps. So one doesn't require the other, it's just the default way the phone tries to sort itself up.

Looks nice! Quite a bit more money than the Lumix, but probably worth it. It's nice to have one device (iPhone) that can do so much ... 🙂

I've been using the Pocket Light Meter app on my iPhone 5 for about 7 months now. When I first got my M2 I inquired about light meters/apps like the Luxi and Lumu without much feedback.

When comparing the pocket light meter app to my x100s and Leica MR/MC meter it's spot on. Haven't had any issues with the app so I figured any add on would now just be a waste. Only thing I wish you could do with this app is select specific shutter speeds to display. Annoying when it jumps to 1/2000, or to 1/13; something like that when my M2 doesn't have those shutter speeds.

I use it with my M4-P and IIIc. It works flawlessly. I do meter the back of my hand and always get good exposures. People think I'm taking a picture of my nails though, it looks a little gay but hey, it works!

My problem is the hundreds of inadvertent photos of my feet. People think I have a foot fetish when they see my unedited stuff.

Eg.: pocket light meter?
Photo meter pro?
Luxi light meter?

Agreed. I found Pocket Light Meter great, until it gave readings that were way off.
It's accuracy depends on the light levels experienced.
I've gone back to using a handheld Sekonic, which is about the same size but far more ergonomically pleasing to use. And I trust.

I have used the Luxi light meter for over a year. It consistently agrees with the meter in my M6. It is easier to use than a hand held light meter.
