I just got a Canon 50/1.2 and in planing to use it on the M8 would want a 55mm IR-Cut filter. It was suggested there might be an issue with the filter coming in contact with the front element. Has any on found this an issue?

Anyone ever seen a 55 to 55mm adapter ring?

I don't know who makes the IR filters, but I have a Hoya MRC 8x ND filter (not a "slim" filter) for my Canon 50/1.2 and it fits fine and doesn't contact the front element. The standard Hoyas do seem to be a bit thinner than some filters, though.

I have used both the Leica and the B+W UV/IR filters and both do not touch the front element.

I use a very simple procedure to determine if there will be a problem of a filter touching the front surface of a lens. Take some clean thin soft tissue or toilet paper and cut a small square out. With the lens facing upwards place the square of tissue on the center of the front surface. Very carefully screw on the filter and look for signs of the tissue being squashed. If it's not squashed and the tissue will move freely when you tilt and tap the lens then the filter is safe. I had to use this method with the 50/1.2 Hexanon.

Bob.
