Hey guys

Now that I've been able to shoot for a few days with my R-D1 I've started to notice the IR sensitivity.. I know some people are not bothered by it, but it annoys me quite a bit already. My understanding is that this also can cause skin tones to get a bit red? I'm finding that I get purple blacks and in some cases just a strange red-ish skin tone. Do you guys think it is really worth shooting with an IR filter, and if so, any special ones you recommend?

As a side note, I compared the Aperture raw conversion with the Photolier conversion and it seems Photolier handles the skin tones a bit better, but not enough for me to pull it into my workflow. There were other things with it as well that I found to be inferior as well, like noise handling and it doesn't seem to properly map out stuck pixels for some reason I don't really get. Then of course the side effect of the extra step using it and also the file size of having to do tiff conversions.

so that is why I'm considering the IR filter as a middle ground..

I did use my R-D1s a lot w/o IR-cut filters. No problem at all generally. I just missed them from to time, mainly under tungsten light. Now that i have an M8.2, i have stuck a filter on my most used lenses and can recommend Leica's, B+W's but also cheap "Rocolax" filters sold by "GiantCrafter Studio" on e**y (http://tinyurl.com/8395sjm). Only con, the latters (at least mine) have one filter thread only so one cannot stack another filter or a screw-in hood onto them.

i have uv/ir filters on all my lenses...i figured it couldn't hurt.
with patience, i have found good used ones at more affordable prices...mostly b+w brand.
