We can assume that if the DoD thought this guy was a serious threat, then they would have shipped him off to Gitmo. That means that we can assume they didn't have more than unreliable and inadmissible hearsay evidence against him, and in addition maybe just didn't like his reporting or something. In any case, we can assume this was another shameful episode of the US preaching rule of law to others while ignoring the concept as applied to us.

That's a lot of assuming. But you may still be right. Sadly.
 
I read in the last Newsweek issue that millions have been spent on anthropologists to "study the Iraqi society", with no positive results so far. What stupidy this is. Why not talk to some of the hundreds of thousands Iraqi Americans or Iraqi Brits or ... ?! This is so annoying [beyond sadness].

We know what the Iraqi society is like.
