Irrational wants....

Last spring / summer, I sold a Focomat IIc. Very glad I liquidated it, because it weighed a ton and I didn't want to ship it, and so thankful that someone bought it at my asking price and agreed to pick it up.

Now I want another one.

Also, perhaps having a 4x5 camera is also an irrational want. I haven't shot my LF camera more than a couple times over 5 years. I should liquidate it for something that I'll use. But, something inside says "no, you'll find time to use it and you'll love using it".

What's your "irrational want"?

My irrational want is a refrigerator full of Adox Ortho 25. Irrational because I'll probably reach for my usual films and never end up using it all up, but more importantly it's irrational because I can't eat Adox Ortho.

A Noctilux for my Monochrom.

Oh wait -- maybe the Monochrom was an irrational want, but I got one anyways. This is bad....very bad.

Noctilux sounds perfectly rational, Vince. So expensive it's not even funny any more - but highly rational.

Ferrari F430.
1959 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing

Pretty much everything else I want, I can really use for something on a daily or at least very regular basis.
I would like about 20 more Nikon early reloadable film cassettes.

Phil Forrest

My irrational want is to find a fixed lens RF that is as good as a Leica! 2 recent ebay purchases have resulted in 2 lemons! When will I learn!

I should add that I still have my M4P (thankfully) that I haven't sold because the film body values seem to be going down, and then down some more

I'm really perfectly Content with Film
But why is it I want a Monochrom.....:eek::eek:

Edit: when I woke up ths Morning and read this I thought "What, just. A passing Whim"
Don't really want a mono so it really Is IRRATIONAL ..;)

A brand new Black Paint Leica M9-P, not only irrational, but also unavailable. But I still lust for one.

Best,
-Tim

My utterly irrational want is Sony RX1. I have enough gear to do what I want and need, and I'm more of a 50mm lens lover than 35mm, but still this little camera almost no one has yet handled sings a strangely compelling siren song to me. Sigh.

A camera kit that will cleanse me of GAS... forever! :bang: The closest I came to that was during the mid-nineties. I had a Nikon F3 with two lenses, 28 and 50. During those years, I never thought of looking at any other gear. I only thought about making images. Then RFF hit me over the head and I've been seeing stars ever since!

Probably my desire to get a Hasselblad SWC again - haven't had one for close to 30 years. I am quite sure that if I got one - I would still prefer the Bessa Wide!
Also, now and then, I get this urge to go back to 4x5 or 8x10 - and get a Sinar P2 and a humongous tripod again. There is something about 8x10 bl/w negatives - and contact prints that is very addictive.
Truly irrational want is an ALPA with the 6x9 cm roll film back and either a Schneidar 58mm XL or a 72mm XL.

well, i bought an M9P, so it would be irrational for me to think it irrational if i wanted to get something within that price range. i keep surprising myself with the amount of money i burn on camera stuff.

so i guess the best bet is to set the bar pretty high.

an Alpa 12TC with a Leaf Aptus digital back.

A pre-war Zeiss 180/2.8 Olympia Sonnar.

Irrational because 1) I am unlikely to ever see one.
2) I very much doubt if I would use one if I had it.
