What flavor of English do you speak? In my American PNW accent, the 'ehh' sound in help doesn't sound like the Japanese vowel sound at the end "ケ"

Well, it is not incorrect per se, one can say I am bourgeoisie (as a class), it may sound a bit awkward, but in the same way as “we are Spartacus”. I respect HCB opinion, but there are others who used narrow DOF in a very creative way. In HCB genre this might not be very important, but one cannot say the same about all type of photography, especially portrait. Surely, when it is abused, it’s a different thing.

it seems to me you're making up your own grammatical rules. Why stretch it.....since the bourgeoisie, is a class made up of bourgeois.
Try your version next time you're in France & see how quickly eyebrows are raised. Either way, i'm not that invested in the concept of 暈け

I am not making up my rules. There is a difference - bourgeoisie is a class and is mostly understood in terms of social/economic or political aspect, while bourgeois describes something related to or characteristic of the middle class, often with negative or critical connotations of being materialistic, conventional, or having narrow-minded values. And I know how it sounds in French, I have no need to test it. You can consider it not very successful joke on my part, because this was exactly what it was (something that had the rhyme).

For some, the quality of the areas of the image that are out of focus is an important element. For many, however, I wonder if using fast lenses to render a lot of the image captured out of focus is a way of avoiding worrying about elements that would become an unwanted part of the composition. For some, it’s similar to the their use of long lenses to isolate an element and of how wider focal lengths are harder for them to shoot with: too many elements to manage. I recall how, when I started in photography in the 60s, the 135mm was the first accessory lens a lot of folks bought, not wide angle lenses. Also, fast lenses were a help when the ASA of Kodachrome was 10, so if I had an f2 normal lens (I couldn’t afford an f1.4), the out of focus background was simply an artifact of getting the photo, at all.

Computer aided design and better manufacturing has wiped out a lot of differences in optical signature, and bokeh is one of the main distinctive features still around to make comparisons. You have to make “character” lenses on purpose now.
