given now we have x-e2 and x-t1, is x-e1 still relevant? how far is it behind after its latest fw update?

Basic sensor is the same.. So basic iq is equal..
As w/ any such question.. It depends on how u plan to use it and what type of photographs u take.

yes im thinking to buy one, originally plan for x-e2, but the price is still a little to steep at the moment, let alone x-t1. x-e1 can be had for fairly low price, but im afraid of being disappointed with the af speed.
im a casual shooter n plan to dump my canon gear for something lighter, thus fuji x system. but since it will be used sparingly, im looking for something not costing me too much but with decent enough (doesnt need state of the art tech/feature of today). i tried x100 before n found sometimes the af speed is a little slow to my liking, thus the question.

I wish I could answer for you but you seem to be in favour of saving money so you'll have to learn to live with the AF speed. It can't be as bad as my old film SLR's, even the AF ones, can it?

I can't answer for you, but I'm happily using two X-E1s for personal and professional gigs today.

X100 w/ latest fw update maybe better than what u tried before. The xe1 will be pretty close, maybe a hair faster. The xe2 is next fastest and the xt1 is supposed to be best in terms of af speed.
If dslr af speed is your guideline, nothing beats a dslr made in last 2-3 years in terms of af speed. The m43 cameras like the Panasonic gx7 or Olympus omd series can come close. Depending on the lens that u put on the Fuji, it will come close to the m43 in af speed for xp1/xe1.
I have never had or played w/ either the xe2 or xt1 so I cannot say how much they have in improved.
Rough estimate style measure. Remember counting seconds by going one thousand one, one thousand two, etc.
The Nikon d7100, u can't finish the first one of one thousand one before af lock. The m43 cameras, u can just about finish the one.. The Fuji x mount xp1 and xe1 depending on lens can be a hair slower than the m43 or as bad as middle of the thousand. My 18-55 is the best af speed for me and my 60 is so far the worst.
The xt1 is supposed to be much better across the board w/ all the Fuji lenses.

Get it , enjoy it. There is always something new coming out. My old M8 still takes great photos, the XE-1 is miles ahead of that in most areas.
It would be a big help if everyone took the time to post in the sub forum about their subject matter. Moving posts for members who are not taking the time to think about where their own thread belongs is not the best use of mod's time.

Relevant? Let's put it this way - I still trot my Nikon D1 out for occasional use. An X-E1 is a mere youngster in comparison.

I just bought one recently. The image quality is great, the focus speed is a little worse than I would hope for ideally. I'm happy with it until the new sensors come out. It's great at anything no moving much. You can get one for about £300 and the lenses are excellent, if not super cheap.

With the most recent firmware installed, the XE-1 performs well. AF speed is dependent on the lens, the contrast of the focus region and several other menu parameter settings.
The camera is still relevant because it is an excellent tool for many usage scenarios.

I think just about all digital cameras are relevant now. All cameras have limitations. Shoot within those limitations and be happy.
