If it meets your needs and you like the image quality, then it is relavent. If you are using it for work and it doesn't meet your client's demands or can't handle the type of work required then that qaulifies as irrelavent.

Like the others I think the title question is ridiculous.
But if we talk about the camera comparatively, then the main differences are AF speed and the extra focus peaking option (only significant if you use legacy a lot). AF speed is still fine for me, AF-C is decent, AF-S is sluggish and occasionally frustrating.
If I were to buy a fuji again today I would still get the X-E1. The prices have come down a lot and I'd prefer to spend the price difference in lenses. I trust the X-E1 for professional applications and personal also, I'll be using the X-E1 for years to come - relevant or not.

I exchanged my Canon 5D MK II for the X-E1. Yes the AF is a bit slower than the 5D, but at least it is precise every time (the 5D was hit and miss). I use it for pro work - but I don't do sports or other fast moving objects. The image quality of the X-E1 is outstanding. So it all depends on what you are photographing.

Sorry to say that the moment the X-T1 came out all the X-E1's in the world stopped working!

Horses for courses, dudes. Don't use a hammer to drill a hole. The XE1 is not a one size does it all camera. I tried shooting motorsports with an M6 and a 135 lens once and it didn't work out so well.

I have had my X-E1 since mid-2014 along with a Fuji 1,4/35mm. To that I also use an old Nikkor 1,8/85mm for shooting my granddaughters' volleyball games as well as some local documentary photography work I am doing. Since I am from film days and before AF, I just shoot the sports the way I did for work - guess focus point and hope. It all depends on what your needs are. I have been very satisfied with the AF function of the X-E1 for my uses today. No, it doesn't have AF tracking like my Nikons did but it also doesn't weigh a ton!

...but Fuji & the rest of the big camera makers want you to ask these questions. MOF they depend on it.
Since this question was asked in 2014 is it fair to ask is the xe2 relevant? I don't have one but I'd say the answer is yes, in which is what the manufacturers don't want you to say. Blake is right.🙂

The auto focus is still its biggest flaw. The XE-1 with the 18-55 kit lens is the only Fuji I own. It is my walk around system and I'm very happy with the results. Have not tried the XE-2, but the autofocus would have to be dslr good before I would upgrade. Bought the kit on sale over a year ago for $799. Money well spent IMHO.

Still relevant IMO. Depending on how you shoot and the subjects you want to explore, it is a fine camera with many fine lenses. As other posters have mentioned, you can get a lightly used XE1 at good prices, which continue to drop. Then you can put the money saved towards lenses/adapters. It is my entry point into the Fuji X system.

I just compared the focusing speed of my X-E1 with a 1.4/35mm lens attached to that of a first generation AF film SLR (in this case a Yashica 230AF with 1.8/50). Result: No considerable difference in low light conditions. Maybe this helps to get an idea of the X-E1 autofocus speed.

I think it is great with Manual lenses. I would use it with a 0.7 focal reducer and some old lenses through adaptors.
For me it is very close digital rangefinder experience. YMMV

I have the X-E1 and still very very happy with it.
I guess I would enjoy the faster refresh rate on the viewfinder of the X-E2 but my viewfinder is good enough.
I use mainly M and LTM glass and sometimes the 18/2 or 35/1.4
I'm very satisfied with the X-E1, I don't think it has lost any value.
One thing I ask Fuji for all models is a more natural, OK non Fuji : ), film simulation.
Something more neutral. Otherwise, super happy
