The "Vintage Look"...
There are several ancient photographs hanging in my home. The only clue to their age is the dress, hair style, etc. of the subjects. I have a snese that what many describe as the vintage look is in reality deterioration of the print as a result of age and improper storage.
I can state for a fact that my 100 year old lens combined with modern film and chemicals yields results indistinguishable from my most modern lens. Actually, the 100 year old lens may be sharper and/or have more contrast than my modern lenses.
On the other hand, contemporary wet plate images made with old lenses look remarkably like those from the earliest days of the media.
In my opinion, one thing holds true. I can spot a contact print from a large original every time. Warts, age, defects etc. aside, contact prints from big negatives produce photographs that are unmistakable.

yanidel, i feel the same. when i took blurred shots, it looked stronger for me. When your brain doesnt register details, just suddenly listen on your feelings when you look at the pic once. Impression, of course .. Rembrandt, impressionism, Picasso or whatever all is true if you look at art. Did you forgot where do you came from?
Stieglitz, yeaah lovely images. Franseca Woodman, wow.. many photographers we can find. Painter Bacon is cool. I think we can find a lot of similarities in art forms if we exclude documentary, journalism

Content and composition trump technical perfection, as in: What we have here is a perfctly exposed and sharply focused piece of crap.
