Is it just me or has there been some GREAT stuff for sale recently

I saw some great stuff on craigslist and ebay. I was wondering the same thing. People selling entire leica kits; bodies, lenses, etc . . . for 2-3K. I think it is because of the economy, and I did not see too many bids on the stuff that was for sale.

:s:

if i could sell the M6TTL i have in the classifieds, i would buy that MP listed on here today right now...

seems like a great time to buy if you have the money, but a pretty crummy time to sell.

Keith, it wasn't that long ago the aussie dollar was hovering around US$.50 for a while. I remember comparing the cost of importing (a new Canon kit) & buying here. It was still far cheaper to import from a place like B&H. Since then, prices here have become a bit more realistic & we don't get ripped off quite as much!

How about the "FrankenLeica"?

I can't wait for all these dilettantes with expensive gear hit the skids and have to dump their cherished gear for pennies on the dollar.

It will feel great stealing all their stuff with "sentimental value" for far less than it's worth.

I hope the economy gets much worse and they lose everything they have.

that's lovely...

Hey, don't get me wrong, I sold a Mamiya 7II recently to pay for a recent guitar purchase, so I am part of the recent flood. But even for a confirmed camera-holic like me there has been a lot of stuff that has been reeealy tempting. The MP, for instance, is top of the list of things I really don't need, but would buy if I won the lottery. Ditto a version IV 35 Cron, ditto a 28 Cron, ditto an Alpa with a tasty 50 Macro-Switar. Ah well, one day.

When people get really desperate, it's more pleasurable buying their stuff from them for almost nothing.

DEFLATION is probably coming, not inflation. In about a year, they'll be fighting over food in empty supermarkets.

Well, all I can say is that in my case, (selling) is not so much driven by the economic climate as it is a combination of several things:

1. Shifting priorities for available funds (such as my home improvement)
2. I'm old(er), and want to simplify/optimize my gear
3. I like to experiment, so a lot of gear passes through my hands

And yes, it's true, selling stuff has become noticeably harder to do. It's not so much that it isn't selling at all, but rather that it takes longer to do it.

Andy, are sure you don't need another MP? That Summilux is beautiful... (-:

That's Nasby's modus operandus, best to just ignore him since he loves reponses to his nastiness. Bob.

sorry i took the bait again...

it is a nice time to buy cameras, though it's kind of a shame so many of us are hurting. i'm not in a *bad* money crunch right now, but things are not great either. if i come home with another camera, my may actually kill me. for some reason, she doesn't see the logic in having 5 M bodies!

funny. i was just thinking the same thing this morning. there's a whole bunch of stuff i'd be interested in. being (voluntarily) unemployed at the moment doesn't help...
