Is it the G2 body or the 90mm lens or both?

I have one of those problems that you see once a while on the internet regarding the G2s : Pictures taken with G2/28mm lens combo come out ok, but those with the G2/90mm combo were "out-of-focus" most of the time.

In a bid to get to the bottom of the matter, I sent an email to two well-known servicing companies : one to Tocad, the other to a reputable service shop. One asked me to send everything (well, he said he can do the repair of the lens and body), and the other told me to just send the 90mm lens to be repaired (I've re-asked again and yes, just the 90mm lens will do).

Now I'm hesitant, not sure who to use.

Any suggestions?

Thks!

Focusing a 90mm without visual confirmation is difficult, so just about anything that can go wrong with a lens, body or rangefinder/AF might affect it.

Go with Tocad, whatever they recommend - they are the official service centre for Yashica/Contax/Kyocera, and should know best. Besides, even if they were the ones that asked for the lens only, they have a flat fee, so if you order a repair a focus issue, they'll have to carry on with the body if necessary, without charging you extra.

Yes, Tocad was the one which asked me to send only the lens.

I wonder how, without troubleshooting both body and lens, they know it's the lens. The internet entries seem to indicate that the focusing algorithm could also be the culprit, although I remember someone said the earlier 90mm lens did have some problem.

Is this an issue with the G2 only? I cannot recall having the problem with my G1, but I use it so infrequently I really wouldn't know. It would be nice to have some attribute of this nice camera to set against the ridiculously-higher market price of the G2. I very much like the 28mm lens, and can live quite happily without the 35.

Cheers,
Dez
