Is it worth buying a used R-d1?

This could be a bit silly question but I just wanna get some advise.
Is it worth buying a R-D1 which have been used for about 3 years and the condition very well taken care, with no problem and firmware upgraded.

Can a used R-D1 be easily found in ebay? and approximately what's a used price will be?

What I am afraid is after years of using, will problems appear especially for digital camera?

Please, someone convince me on this as I am confirming a used unit which I have been looking for some time and honestly i couldn't afford a new one at the moment.

Please advise what to check when inspecting the camera.

I had two R-D1 already. Both were used. No problem. Excellent cameras. The rangefinder is a little fragile, but excellent camera anyways. You don't shoot with these cameras like when you are using a Canon Mark II in auto mode for sports! The shutter will last for many years, I guess. So fat, no problem with this lovelly camera! Buy one! I might sell you mine and found another one!

I have a used one that has been great - no problems at all. A fantastic camera that lets you use all those M lenses when you don't feel like spending money on film.

How much is the used camera you are thinking to buy? All the examples I found before I got my new R-D1s never went for less than 17000-1850dlls so I save a little more and buy new. You will be very happy with the camera, I love mine specially at iso 1600 🙂

Buy one from someone you know or from a reputable dealer/private seller, and you should be okay. They usually fall in between 1700 - 1850 used. I absolutely adore my R-D1. I've shot with both it and an M8, and I like the way the R-D1 shoots better. I just wish it had an updated chip to compete with the M8. Not to say the chip is bad, though, it's very good, especially for the age of the design. I think it has the same chip as the Nikon D70.

I will never part with my R-D1... Unless Epson comes out with the R-D2 (like that's going to happen).

BTW the R-D1 and the D70 have not the same sensor AFAIK: Sony ICX413AQ for the R-D1 (same as Nikon D100) and Sony ICX453AK for the D70. See:

Finally, I have just got it yesterday.
Looks & feels good, and it was in good condition.
Have yet to try it out, will do it tis weekend.

BTW any advise on the Film settings? I am kind of curious on that part.
Is that settings be able to tune it into the feel of manual film kind of look?

I finally go it from someone who have upgraded to M8 which I couldn't afford yet.
And the seller is a great guy which provide me with lots of info too.
Guess I will stick to the R-D1 for awhile 1st.

Hi, I am still playing around with it, as for now I am using a classic Heliar 50mm f2, results are pleasing as i always like the rangefinder feel & look.

Now looking forward to see if I should get a 35 or 28mm.

if only the RD-1 produced images that looked like they were from that era, too! unlike other comments i've seen, i don't find it very film-like. but it is fun to use. i don't know much about cars (old or new): was the studebaker fun to drive?

I wish I could show you some examples from the 35mm 1.2 I bought last month on ebay, unfortunately I am in the middle of a dispute because of a "never get item" matter... so, I hope I will get my lens some day to let you know my findings.

In the meantime these are some examples with my 35mm f2.5 PII...

And these are from more a year ago with the CV 35mm f1.7 that sold along with my first R-D1. it is hard to judge vs my 35mm 2.5 shots because these have completely different shooting and post processing parameters, -now I usually work with higher isos- but I can tell the 35mm 1.7 shows a lot less contrast, and also is faster so I guess all depends in your personal taste...
